What time of year would you normally start to cut the grass?

And what is the best time to rake the soil?

As my dog has a habit of scratching the grass up, and now I have a 3ft circular bald spot in the back lawn.

So I want to chuck some more seed down.

Any help please?

Mow any time of the year if it needs it and the ground isn't saturated.

Far too early for seed, though. Try April.

Ta I didn't know what time to seed it.

The dog has actually done you a favour, scarifying or raking out the dead grass or as some areas of the UK call it 'thatching' is a necessary part of lawn maintenance usually carried out in the spring.

Not that I am any lawn expert, it is so clay ridden around here I can only grow buttercups daisies and moss

Managing to kill the moss using an all in one lawn feed.

I also have an electric rake, but I broke the plastic roller on the back, so I need to fix it hopefully with a jubilee clip.

I've got an electric lawn scarer too. Very effective indeed and precludes the need for those nasty boxes of "Lawn Treatment"

When the soil doesn't go "squelch" underfoot and my shoes don't get wet walking through the grass, that's when I think about mowing... :D

But never mind the mowing, I want some more snowing...:-rofl2

I have something similar but of a much smaller area on the top of my head.....and it's nothing to do with my dog

I love the idea of a lawn scarer. Do moles fall into that category?
