The scsi card is currently at my shop so here is a photo I found online..
I think this is the model scsi host adapter SIDE-2930C
View attachment 106095
I'm trying to find drivers atm ..and hoping it will function under win 7 64 bit
otherwise I will have to build an earlier OS just to have it function..
??

..errr maybe ?
AdvanSys ISA SCSI Host Adapter - SIDE2930C.exe win98.exe driver for Windows 7/XP/8/8.1/10/Vista - Summary

I kept a few of those back as I have a number of SCSI drives here, with those connectors (and others)

Which reminds me, I have a lot of old Proliant RAID servers which need a home, but they must weigh hundreds of kilos.

servers I aint short of Stephen..
12 months ago I would have snatched yer hand off ..But I now have 3 running ..
One is a second hand 4 bay Netgear populated with 4x 3TB HDs
1x 2 bay D-Link sporting 2x 3TB drives ..and my bestest ..and most recent
QNAP populated with 4x 8TB Hard Drives ..
..and of course ..the Icybox 4 bay 4x 5TB cold store ..non NAS (a full 20TB non raided)
Basically ..I aint short of such stuff ...
The heaviest being the QNAP ..
and not even close to 'Kilos' fully populated..
QNAP TS-453A-4G 4GB RAM 4 Bay Desktop NAS Enclosure - Ebuyer

just out of curiosity ..
How many bays has the proliant ?
which model(s)

Bet it weighs in at similar to my old Netstor 8 bay Esata coldstore..

Si esta por 22-30€uros el coste de la nueva tarjeta, busca mejor tarjetas AHA 2930/2940 de Adaptec, tienen mejores driver y esta por 10-30€uros.
If this for 22-30€ euros the cost of the new card, look for better cards AHA2930/2940 Adaptec, have better drivers and this for 10-30€ uros.

--------
QNAP TS-453A-4G evaluates it for a friend, as it has 2x3TB discs (will be 4 discs), in the end I ordered a ZyXEL NAS542, we will see that this will not grow more than 4x6TB over time.
Go in the basement with more equipment and the remote control from the PC is appreciated.
At the end of the week.

QNAP TS-453A-4G.- 589€
ZyXEL NAS542.- 170€

Here we go ..
A trip round my Ahem...Storage equipment..
Scuse the mess

The PC you see in one of the photos with many sata cables was my now retired server ..
with a Jbod Freenas setup..
10 mixed hard drives..
fun times and served me well for over 10 years I think..
Then I discovered RAID 5 ..and no going back..
Yes you lose a quarter storage space ...but worth it..
I lost count the number of times I had data corruption after a power cut..
;)

..and a final word of advice for anyone contemplating a raid/NAS ..
Western Digital RED ...
With NASware Firmware..
Purpose built for 24/7 Operation...

Am now contemplating creating some Live Bootable USB sticks with ancient Windows OS on 'em.
Already done an XP lite some time ago ..

Should be possible if I can get hold of the installation ISOs and keys of course..

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
This thread jogs a very old memory of when (late 1980s) I was working for HP at Bristol, and one of the last projects in which I was peripherally involved was the development of the very first DAT drive, using a Sony mechanism.

My role was to try to work out the environmental test spec for these drives - the "shake & bake" stuff was relatively straightforward, but the EMC spec was a real challenge because all the tests in the standards were for complete, ready for use kit but there was nothing I could find about the very near field EM environment that units inside the complete enclosures would encounter.

Short story: lots of experimental conducted and radiated testing, and several "nearly" blown up bits of kit borrowed from other departments - and some not entirely conclusive test results, but hopefully those helped in the long run.

Also, much, much later, got my hands on one of the original drives and some tapes (out of nostalgia as much as anything), but never made any use of them because, as has been mentioned before, by that time the tapes could not hold anywhere near enough data to be of any real help - so binned the whole lot a few years ago:rolleyes:

Good price for the controller £8 incl postage.

Esta muy "limpia" la instalacion.
a4540.gif

-------

This very "clean" facility.
a4540.gif

For me these are toys for walking around the house, I come from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) with VAX servers, from 88 in equipment installation.
In 93 he had a hobby at home, digital video editing on the PC (1Hora/20GB of disk), had mounted a RAID 0 (SCSI) in SCSI with controller Mylex DAC960 of 3 channels, only 40GB (10x4GB.), the tower/PC It had 13 disks and 2 power supplies, for the electric cuts, always UPS with double converter.
I endure for 10 years.

WD NAS Red disks, the problem for the receivers, their noise level, and 29dB is noticeable, with 34-36dB they usually have is very annoying, if you have the NAS far, perfect.

WD 6TB WD60EZRZ Blue SA3==> 28dB.
WD 8TB WD80PUZX Purple SA3==> 29dB.

Have you played with virtual machines? Great for trying things without wrecking an existing system as it all runs in RAM and can be spun up whenever you want

Oracle VM VirtualBox

Ive got an XP VM running on my 11 year old 32bit win7 machine specifically for one bit of obsolete family history software my OH cant live without. I havent even bothered activating it as its just reset to its original settings on each start, with OH loading up her files. ;)

So what have a learned so far ..
The original SCSI card host adapter is probably not faulty afterall.
The new (used) replacement arrived this morning and I immediately tried it in the spare pci slot on my Main PC
ASUS 64 bit mobo.
Same issue ..
will not post bios/boot.
Grrr..
I dug out an older pc barebones ..and after searching for some memory and a PS/2 mouse and keyboard ...I tried again with the SCSI adapter..
Now it's recognised ..and although no OS ..WILL post bios
So I'm guessing older legacy tech is totally non compatible with present day mobo architecture ..
ie ..32 into 64 bit wont go ..
unless it was designed to ??
Or ..maybe it is installed before the EFI boot structure ..and the problem lies there ~??
DAMMIT

Apparently PCIE scsi adapter cards do exist ..
and I have a vacant slot ...but to buy one just to try would be an expensive gamble ...as they usually cost upwards of £40 plus postage..
...and again ...no guarantees of compatibility..
?????????????

I might be better off re-building a LEGACY 32 bit PC for these retro projects..
It's a thought..
Somewhere in my loft I still have a Partially complete 486...
YEP you read that right..
lol

Looks like the software I want to get a hold of is Backup Exec ...but not sure if recent manifestations work with scsi legacy devices ..
I do know that it did for certain ..back when VERITAS originally created it ..but has gone through many regenerations since Symantec absorbed Veritas ..
Does anyone have an old version that I can get a copy of ?
Ill prolly need an activation key as well..

I will have a look, we used to use Backup Exec up on DAT drives until about 2001, but I think I left all the software in the company fireproof safe when I was made redundant in 2008 as I had to hand over my keys so did not get a chance to snaffle but I may just have a copy somewhere give me a day or so to look in the loft.

Took a break from the Chameleon ...and powered up the DAT unit ..
It accepts a DAT tape ..so in this respect ...a positive ..
I have physically installed the scsi card in Chameleon ...and according to XP is recognised in System/Hardware...and is flagged as recognised and working properly ..
I guess I just need software now so that windoze can access and talk to the DAT drive ?
Time for a break ..
Dr Who to watch..

Well, it was not tooo bad - another Stephen Moffat produced episode with a weird, but interesting, plot.

Earth's last survivors sent to to faa ..r off planet, but, before they are all released from stasis, a few are let out to supervise the regeneration of the planet by "cute" little robots who planet form it make it habitable - but then that develop their own rationale that unless the humans are happy and "smiling" , as shown by emoticons on badges on their backs (!), they are obviously "unhappy" and must be "eradicated" (cue flying bots which eat all the flesh - and leave the bones to be reused as fertiliser for all the wheat and vegetables being grown for the humans!). So, smile or DIE!

Won't give rest of the plot away, but it amounts to "CTR+ ALT + DEL" for the robots! :)

But then they develop a very human trait - greed (£/$)! :) :)

Quite amusing!
