David never did recover from the death of his friend Magnus Pyke , and was then ostracised by the media, in particular the BBC.

I must admit I was surprised to learn that despite being a scientist and conservationist that he was also a climate change denier.
 
He was fundamentally a botanist, all the other accolades came later.

Bellamy changed his mind more than once on the situation over climate change, from memory it was somebody called Singer that combined a journal of false data that was swallowed without question. After that the eco charities /commissions that he was patron of dropped him, and then the BBC threw him under the bus.
 
I completely forgot he had a role in Grange Hill (1984)
 
Not sure, one of the recent press releases perhaps.
