hi there,
I'm new to this forum and would appreciate some help.

I have a dm-500+, which i purchased a week ago from germany. Even before I flashed it with gemini image 4.5 im experiencing a problem of the remote control not talking to the box IR (sometimes). Green light stays on. No flicker when buttons on remote are pressed. Changed new batts - no diff.I solve it by disconnecting Dreambox power, wait for 30 seconds, then connecting the power again. so does that happen to every dreambox or have i got a clone one!!
thanks,

Obviously not, nobody would have put up with a glitch like that, but since the 500's have not been manufactured for at least two years it probably is a clone but the only way to tell is with the mac number. There is plenty of information posted on the forum about it

The only time I've seen that happen is when the box has locked up because of a software error, at which point it wont respond to any input.

Try flashing it with a new image, you may find that the problem disappears when you do.

I would recommend Nabilosats DarkstarII if you do in fact have a clone, which you most likely do if its a new box. Stay well clear of Gemini or you will have a much bigger problem on your hands than the one you have now.

thanks for your reply guys.
I'll try the Nabilosats DarkstarII image see what happens
I was just wondering if a clone DB-500plus exists. as I thought the DB500-s was replaced by the new model DM500+. ( and it was expensive compared with a clone one)

I have checked tha MAC number and it starts with 00:09:34
I assume its genuine, isnt it?

No way of knowing since if it has been jtagged as per this thread it will begin with those digits

No, unscrupulous manufacturers can burn any mac they want to the NIC chip.

I sent my first DM-600 away for repair, DMM said they wouldn't touch it because it was a clone. Its MAC started with the correct prefix!

In fact, last I heard, DMM wouldn't return the box saying that they were going to destroy it

Also, you cant go by price. Some sellers sell clones at high prices precisely because some people take the attitude you just have to price.

DM500, DM500+...... Doesn't matter, DMM have stopped manufacturing them quite a while ago.

I would say, better safe than sorry and avoid Gemini like the plague :)

Does the problem occur once I have installed the gemini image or could that happen later on as I had already installed gemini 450 before my first post here.

Sorry, the way you phrased your first post made me think you had not gotten round to installing Gemini yet.

As far as I know it should have happened once you installed the image.

This doesn't mean that your box is not a clone, only that Gemini has not recognised it as a clone for whatever reason, later images may.
