Hello all. I can only add 20 favourites to a PACE 2600. Does this indicate that I should upgrade the firmware ? (I read that it should be 50 favourites).

4 upgrading the firmware questions:
- does it need the phone line ?
- how can I be sure that I have "good and strong" signal ?
- shouldn't the upgrade occur automatically anyway ?
- what does "new installation" on the installers menu mean ?

Thanks as always!

Hi

What software version (EPG) are you on?

Services>System Setup>System Details....number will likely start 3.*.** (eg 3.2.11)

Cheers

It is 3.2.something. I can be more specific later on but I know the 2nd digit is a 2.

I have repeatedly tried updating the firmware, but after 11 minutes or so it fails. I am assuming it can only update when a card is inserted ?!

Also the "New Installation" from the installers menu fails.

( Signal strenght is 50%+ and signal quality is 75% )

- Also any leads for a FREESAT card ?

Thanks.Thanks.Thanks.

You can update a box without a card, the New Installation will always fail, as you are not connected to a phone line for the box to phone home.

New installation feature on the menu does not require phoneline.
It just needs a valid default transponder.

When you choose new Installation from the service menu it says, ensure that saellite dish is correctly aligned and viewing card is inserted, then pres SELECT to continue.
After pressing select Lock indicator must be OK and the network ID and Transport stream must be present in the following box,if they are not present, new installation does not work.and you will be prompted to change the default transponder before you try again..

Yes, but if you do not have a phone line connected, it will give the failed message at the end of the process, as callback will fail, which is what I presume the OP is seeing.

Yepp, you are right M8...at the end it does say if modem not connected call the broadcaster to report manually..

I am getting the "new installation failed" message and the "call the operator to report this installation" message. Silly question I suppose having received these messages, but is the new installation actually failing or not ?

What about the firmware update ? Can it be done without a card and without a phoneline ? It certainly tries to do so ... for over 10 minutes.

The 2600 has issues right now Check out this thread: http://www.satellites.co.uk/satelli...eve-numerous-channels-help-needed-please.html for details. I think yours is the same. I have some which are the same too.

As for the FTV Card. PM me if you need one.

Cheers

Bighelp bignick!

So I'm not the only one stuck on 3.2.11. I will take your advice and keep force updating it ... I'll do it 12 more times ( as are the days of Xmas ) and then I'll buy one of yours :)

I wonder what (if anything) could be different between forrced update #1 to forced update #nn ? Does the default transponder or any other setting influence the update ?

Even tried force updating yesterday with the phone line trick, but that didn't help either.

Finally happened ! Now on 3.4b something ! I have posted some messy details in thread "unable to recieve numerous channels! HELP NEEDED PLEASE"

HAPPY HOLS.

See, patience is everything.

Glad it finally happened for you.

All is well on 3.4.4b! However I did notice that the signal test now only seems to apply to the default transponder. On 3.2.11 the signal test related to the channel / frequency that was selected. Ah well, it's a small price to pay for the stability and features of the 3.4 version.
