Go on VS - we know you can't wait to complete the set :-rofl2

Well do so far though :)

Get packed up now, VS ..................... yer man Cox is on in just over an hour.

but it is inclined 0.7deg...

Yes she lost her attitude control last year

Inclination can be tracked here:

Look for latitude near 0 over on the right.

I hope I'm not jumping the gun as its yet not optimsed.....but the dish _appears_ to be outperforming previous useage..

....just for reference ..
I know its a very clear night ...but I'm currently receiving the Pentagon channel @ 1W ...the best I ever have..

hi -
its all looking good so far -- to be getting that channel without having to mess around - is a good sign that all is ok

its tricky on my offset dish to get a dielectic plate setting that will get -AFN pentagon channel-"and" the channels on theERTU transponder-
its always been a compromise / balancing act between those two for me .

cheers nelson.b.

Don't worry about that you should be able to pick it up without elevation control. I can still receive all the channels listed on kingofsat when the satellite is at its furthest points from the geo-arc. Screenshot with satellite at 0.75ºN.

On the sun I knew already what you were up to but asked because the time mentioned was not quite right. And now I've seen the table I can see the values are a bit off.

Had to have a crack at Express AM1 at 40.0°E

;)
No problem ..

What about 49E?
Maybe do-able ..
But its right at the edge of my actuators current set East limit ..
In order to have a chance i will have to cut half an inch off the edge of the polar mount frame ..
I'll consider its viability tomorrow..
certainly this would be right at the limit ....almost full actuator extension ..and may be blocked by a house within range.
Not dismissed the idea ..but will require some mods..

Hmmm close call ..but since the target is just past the edge of the property ..at the lowest point of the roof ...
..certainly worth considering the mod..

Yamal would only be accessible during the winter months ..as you can clearly see there's a tree in the way

Hi Huevos ..
The angle grinder has been at work agaid ;)

Yamal 49 deg E might be tricky even once the dish is fully tweaked..
The photos show the mod ...ie a half inch cut from the polar mount chassis to stop the actuator binding ..and allow a few more Eastward degrees of arc.
I'm guessing I may have opened up approx 10 degrees ..
40East was 515 on my vbox ...
with the new East limit set ...I can get down to 387
....assuming rougly 10 clicks per degree ...that should be enough ..
Looking at the position of the dish tho' ..
As you can see it now is clipping the fence ...
..will definately clip the tree in summer ...
..and may clip the house directly opposite ..
Still ...nothing ventured...though it is doubtfull

Hi Vipersan, can you get any of the Russian channels on 36 East W7.?

Hi John ..
Didn't think there where any C band tansmissions from this bird ?
rgds

11785 R 27500,11881 L 27500,12015 R 27500,12073 L 27500,list from flysat are they C band.?

My mistake looks like it`s only Ku band, from 36 East.

No probs John ..
easy mistake ...

As to my setup and the mod ...
certainly no sign of Yamal ..but I still think the mod was worth it ..
At some point in the future ..I may well try mounting an extra offset lnb to try and squeeze a few more degrees East ..
You never know ...
..but thats a project for a later date..

Could the dish be pointing further east than you realise. To me it looks like it is almost grazing the horizon, whereas Yamal must be almost 15º elevation for you. Also 10 counts per degree is very unlikely that far round. To me the ram looks like it is approaching going over centre so it must be driving the dish a lot faster than that. My ram is on the east side of the dish so it's a mirror image of yours. Due south for me is 000 on the v-box. 0.8W is 002, 45W is 170, and 45E is 711. So almost double the number of counts on the ram side of the dish. And at the end of my west arc (61W) I'm barely getting 2 counts per degree, compared to the end of my east arc (57E) where I'm getting almost 7 counts per degree.

Hi Huevos ..
every setup is different ..and individual ..
My mount is not the same as yours ...and the pivot point for the actuator is set a good few inches off centre etc ..

these are actual results from my V-box ..

27 west = 312
40 west = 512 ..
a difference of 200 ..
the 2 sats are roughly 13 degrees apart

200/13 = 15 ...roughly per degree...and this gets to more like 16 or 17 > when moving beyond 40 degree to 60 degree

so actually more like 15 clicks per degree

I think I have enough range ...and am travelling 2 clicks at a time from 40E..but still not finding Yamal..

I'll have another go later ...but can you tell me which is the strongest transponder to monitor ?

I may be outside the footprint here in the UK.

sorry 'bout the initial calc ...I wrote down the wrong numbers before coming to the PC..
should be right now..

Ah, no. Huevos is right, the Eastern direction once the motor is driving over the polarmount will be far less accurate (less pulses per degree of movement). Think of the mount-motor-dish shape as an equilateral triangle on the west side, and a increasingly narrowing isoceles triangle on the east.

It might be worth looking at the decreasing numbers you get between 1West and say Rascom at 2.8 degrees (if you can get it)

Arabsat 5 should be - just - within reach as well on a 1.8m

Thanks for that CH ...
I guess the best method would be to hook the new F15 into the mix ..and use the speccy ..since I don't have a reference transponder to monitor ...
If I did ..I'd simply step through a click at a time from 40 East ...which is definately on count 515...

..but from what you say ...I should definately have adequate range..
Never worked so far East with this dish ..as the wall was in the way prior to the new install.

Your info gives me hope that I have indeed overshot the mark..
