Hi guys,

It seems it is impossible these days to find stab hh 120 motors any more. From these three, which one do you think is the strongest (not a very windy area but the dish is a bit exposed)?

-Technomate 2600
-Dark Motor
-Superjack DG-3200
 
All the same really. Dark Motors have some compatibility issues with some receivers but have a wider range. Can't go wrong with a TM2600...
 
This seems to be a strong unit.

That's the only disecq motor I have seen advertised for 1.4m dishes. But I can't see it in any other store or get any other info about it. Do you have any references or any additional info? It is much more expensive too.

It is a positioner control that was manufactured under licence in the Far East some twenty years ago, the supplier is a company called Sat-Control (Slovenien), that has since moved solely into solar panel tracking arrays.

It is rated for light - sub 2mm aluminium - thickness antennas only at the rated 1.4m diameter.

I have two TM-2600 motors. First one been working well for about 8 years (1.1m mesh offset) and my newer MK3 (takes loads up to 20kg) I have a 15.1kg Gibi OP125L working very well indeed :)

I in fact know the company but had no clue the product could have been theirs.

Their European office sent out a number of engineering samples in the mid 00's, probably how the seller came across it

Which one is the MK3 or what's that MK3 thing, sorry? Can't find it in google.

Regarding that one for 140cm dishes... it looked like a diseqc motor, no? You think it would not be suitable?
 
The SM3D22 was DiSEqC 1.3 compliant, there were some threads on here a while ago (2006 ?) but this was just before the company was selling them out at about £40 before shipping, to empty the warehouse for solar panel tracking units, which turned around the business.
I'm sure Satfaca will have more information if you ask nicely.

Some users experienced issues with backlash - not terminal - though it required dismantling to fix.

That sticker looks badly oriented on the images. From the detail printed. what is the manufacturing date ?
 
Hard to say but ... I'd suspect in the late 90's.

The SM3D22 was provided with a 3rd F connector and a build-in 1.0 diseqc switch , the SM3D12 was the standard version .
At a sat meeting in 2004 I did a demonstration with a laserpointer at the rotor showing the arc on a wall .
Started at zero and marked the spot on the wall , worked to 42º E , marking sevaral positions between .
Returned to zero and made markings till 30º W with also marking sevaral positions between .
When turned back from 30º W to 22º W the spot did't hit the 22º marking but stopped 11 mm to early .
This mismatch happened every time with the opposit approch as a used for the marking .
11 mm at a distance of 2 mtr is ± 0.3º , no big deal at a strong signal satellite but at a weaker satallite it make some difference .
Later I noticed that this rotor has a arc from 50ºW to 50ºW with a pulser that provide 277 pulses over that range , so one step is 0.36º
I do not know if the counting and arc range at both rotors are the same .
 
Yes, backlash can be cured but only by dismantling.

The original advert was for the twin port 322, useful for secondary dishes at the time, but as far as I can recall the protocol ran through the motor control PCB.

TJ was royally screwed following purchase of a STAB rotor from the same ebayer, to sell a 15+ old unit with generic issues at the auction price is extracting the urine.
 
My story has nothing to do with backlash , also on that rotor was no backlash at all .
Only the fact that one step was 0.36º , was making that issiu .
Moteck SG2100 rotors and most other brands make ± 38 pulses/º
