DiseqC Motor and Tripod mount question

My Satellite Setup
Zone 1 Mini Dish with a Quad LNB Feeding Astra 2 and EB 1 to a Humax Faxsat-HDR 500 and a Humax Foxsat-HD, A Quad LNB on the same Zone 1 Mini Dish Feedind Astra 1 to a Humax Foxsat-HD via a 2 port DiseqC Switch

Is it possible to use a DiseqC Motor on a Tripod mount, as I'm thinking of setting up a Motorised system and don't want to mess about with Pole mounts and U Bolts to set the System up on the Balcony railings. But I obviously don't want to go to the expense of buying a Tripod mount just to find that it's not up to the job that I want it to do?

It's unlikely that a tripod mount would be stable enough. You could use a non-penetrating ground mount though. _http://www.blake-uk.com/mounts2.aspx

I'll have a look at one of those then, if it works out more expensive then I'll go for the pole mount and U Bolts on balcony railings. I'm only intending to Motorize a Zone 2 Mini Dish as the space on the balcony doesn't leave much room for a larger dish as I've already got a Zone 1 Mini Dish on the wall for 28.2/5e for Freesat and I want to move the temporery 19.2e LNB onto a dedicated dish and then eventually motorize it when I get a dedicated Multi Sat box.

I'm only going to be using a Zone 2 Mini Dish as there isn't much space on the balcony for a larger dish, & I don't think the wife would go with the idea of one of those and some paving slabs on the balcony. It looks like I might end up having to go for the U Bolts and Pole mount on Balcony railings method.

Have a word with your local scaffold merchant, a short piece plus two clamps woud be peanuts compared to a real mount that you might not use for long.

You will need a proper pole mounted dish though if you go down this route.
 
+1 one for going to the scaffold merchants.

I've set mine up on a tripod but it's a bolt on type. You can put it on some patio stones on your balcony... should be OK.

Would a standard TV Areial Pole mount be up to the job of of holding a Zone 2 Mini Dish and DiseqC Motor/

Those 1" ones? Highly doubtful.

I only want something that I can easily take down if need be, as we only live in a rented house I ideally want something that I can easily dismantle and take with me if we ever move or if council get snotty about Dishes up etc.

I'll have to have a look on ebay or Maplins and see what they've got as if possible I want something compact that won't take up too much space. I've seen quite a few Mini Dishes around where I live on Ariel poles, but they all seem to be fixed dishes though.

I didn't realize that motorizing a Mini Dish would require a beefy pole mount.

The motor is probably heavier than a mini-dish! Motors require stable mountings if they are to track anything properly. An aerial pole just won't do it....

I'll take a picture when I get up in morning and post it up when I get chance in the evening. If all else fails I might just go for a fixed dish and put LNBs on 19.2e and 13e and 9e if possible on a Zone 2 Mini Dish or even a small round Dish.

A couple of these may do the job with a short length of scaffold pole or 2" steel mast. _http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/product_overview.asp?prod=TELESTAR-Double-Mast-Bracket&id=1476&catid=12&subcat=51

These would enable you to get the mast plumb.
 
Perfect spot for a bit of scaffolding m8 ..
Hopefully your balcony rails are plumb ..
If not your have to tweak the pole with packing

Would putting a motorized dish near the existing one create problems with the Signal Strength & Signal Quality for the Freesat setup?
