Dish alignment problems and Height of dish above roof

Yes, found that with the Technomate motor, you could actually lift the dish a couple of centimetres, which was a bit disconcerting.

(I did order the Motek but was sent the Strong Im not sure if the are identical or not ...........

possibly not...

I've seen that movement on some ... it's usually inside the elephant's trunk casting where it bolts on the motor stub.. shows up with wind pushing the dish back. Could be a bad cast... I've seen them warped before now from a bad cast that slipped through the QC.

You could replace it ...or use resin/metal filler - it's only under compression.

Also I've had a few that were fine until the shaft was removed and put back, even then the play wasn't too bad but noticable.

Hmmmmm Well that hasnt given me any confidence at all! I must admit I am a bit disapointed that despite advertising a Motek, I was sent the Strong. I should have asked more questions but it said It was a Motek right? Even now their Website says Motek but their ebay site just has Strongs. Shame I didnt pick that up. I could send it back but as its fitted I could only argue that its faulty and chances are Id get another with the same problem.

With regards the motor itself It looked as if there was play when the motor was on 1W but when the elephants trunk was moved turned I remember it was solid with no play at all. I really can't answer this one untill next weekend (has it play or hasnt it?) but thinking about it I dont remember noticing any play on the motor before I fitted it. So perhaps its not as bad as think it is. This is the first Motek motor I have ever got my hands on so I have nothing to compare it with although I have downloaded the 2100A manual and it is identical (well 99%) to the Strongs .................Not that that means anything of course.

Well Ive ordered an MTI Highline AP8-T2NRC so hopefully I be able to report at least a bit of an improvement in what Im pulling in. Il let you know about the motor too.

If they advertised a Motek I think sending a Strong is a serious issue ... although the Wizard quote tm2200's as 'made by motek'.. you ordered a motek made by motek.

Some of the problems of who makes what motor and different quality versions of what looks like the same motor are here if you've not already seen it.. it's a minefield.

Yep I agree but in the end Ive fitted it so its too late. I wanted to get it up whilst I was still off work. As it is when I called them it was promised for delivery on 30th Dec but it wasnt actually delivered untill last Monday (5th). Im not sure if this was because of Parcel Farce or the retailer either way this was not one of my better online shopping experiences (and Ive bought alot over the years).

Ok heres an update.

Im still unable to get anything of 16E which is a shame because I was pulling it in with my old Gemini 90. Ive tried the MTI Highline and whilst it improves things a little on 1W it does nothing for 16E. I have tried adjusting the dish but just ended up loosing everything else. Oh well Il keep trying.............

Anyway back to the matter in hand, Ive checked the motor and something isnt right. I can lift the dish by easily 20mm which is making setting up the dish a bit tricky. On the other hand I have no play on the East to West at all.

Also Ive noticed that the motor is very noisy when turning. I can hear it inside the house and easily hear it outside and the dish is on the roof! OK I admit my old motor is a Stab HH120 which Id have to look at to see if it was moving but considering the Moteck is sold as "ultra low noise" I am starting to conclude that what I probably have is a cheap Moteck clone rather than a rebadged original.

Any thoughts guys? How noisy is the Moteck? im thinking I should cut my loses and go get a proper Moteck I know that I could take it up with the supplier but in all honesty I think its a bit late and with the cost of sending the motor back its just not worth the hastle.

The Moteck is very quiet, I can only just hear it from inside and really have to listen for it.:)

Thanks ...................thats what I thought you would say. Im going to replace what I have. but I will have to call a supplier first to make sure a Moteck means a Moteck.
