Dish alignment. size or pure optimism?

Hi,

Hope this is the right place to post and you can help me. I have a motorised setup that I have used for 3 years now, however tended to just focus on 28e, 13e and 19e. Recently ive started to play a bit more and chase more stations which has taken me on to birds like 36e (Eutelsat) and 26e (Badr).

I have noticed that according to my location that 90CM dish is required, which is the size that I have. However I can't get a single channel on Badr and Eutelsat seems to get some channels, however not that many. Those that I do get the quality is up and down making getting a picture difficult.

What I started thinking was that maybe the angle of my dish is slightly wrong? Would this be possible, even though im getting signals off the 28,13 and 19 birds without a problem? Has anyone in the Midlands got anything off Badr with a 90cm dish? Maybe I just need a bigger dish? Is there a strong freq off these birds that I could use when searching which is more likely to work?

For 26E concentrate on the Badr 4 channels. You wont get Badr 5 or 6 without getting a very big sized dish.

As for 36E make sure you are looking for channels on the European beams - forget the African and Russian beams. Your best bet will be channels on the W7 Eurasian beam

So should I be able to get Badr 4 really on that size dish in the Midlands?

You might find them marginal but yes you should stand a reasonable chance of getting at least some of the channels

So would it be possible that I could have my dish aligned incorrectly, even though I am getting signals from some satellites? I am thinking it could be to do with the angle of the dish. As what is the difference between a Stab 90,100,120 motor? I remember not seeing anything on dish pointer that related to my motor, so just went for the 120 option I think at time of setup.

Hi Clewsy ..
Yes you should get _something_ from Badr

This list might be a little old ..as I haven't re-scanned in a while ..
and my dish is a little bigger ...and am using the much acclaimed black ultra lnb

Some of these transponders were quite strong ..so I see no reason why you ..being based further South than me ....shouldn't get at least some of them on your 90cm ..
I would definately recommend you use a good quality lnb ...like the black ultra..
good luck..

To get badr4, the dish must be spot on, including the the LNB being at the dish focal point. Getting 28E,19E and 13E is easy, the dish can be off a bit and still work OK.

Try tweaking the sat position a bit using the receiver controls, if no success try tilting the dish a bit without undoing any bolts, also swap the LNB for an Inverto black ultra and get the LNB in the optimum position.

Thanks VS :- 2 questions if you dont mind me asking. 1) What PC tuner are you using? (I wouldn't mind going that way in the future) 2) How much / where is the best place to get one of these lnbs?

Could it be then that my dish is aligned wrong? See im only asking this as if like you say I should get something, then this must be the problem? However with getting channels from some sats I dont know if being aligned wrong is a possibility?

Try fleabay for the lnb, thats where mine come from.

As for the dish, Im using an 88 Triax with a black ultra in south Cheshire. I pull in lots of channels from Badr4, try checking your setup.

I wont be too far away from you Jase if your South Cheshire - just down the road. So that is really encouraging. I will get one of those lnbs and also try the tilt adjustments as suggested. How do I ensure that the lnb is in the optimum position on the arm? Is that the markings on the lnb where I have to turn it, as im assuming the arm is fitted in the right place to start with?

That particular list was obtained using a TBS6925 pcie card ..
But you shouldn't need to go to such lengths..

Just use an inverto black ultra at the focus as has been suggested ..
Make sure you alignment is spot on ..and you should get results..

Once you get a lock and are sure that you have 26E and not 28E, you can slide the LNB in and out of its holder until your signal quality is maximized (BER etc smallest). A good transpnder to use is 12182H, as it is not used n 28E (though is on 23.5E, so be careful).

Ditto for skew, but not so critical, and easier to get right.

dose anyone have a method to help us correcting dish focus to LNB so all reflected waves goes to the LNB head, i read about the mirror method using sun rays .. is there another easier way?

Well I have my lnb now so will install it tomorrow. What is the difference between a Stab HH90 and Stab HH120 motor? I'm trying to work out which one I actually have on my setup.

Ok fitted the lnb and getting something on Badr 4 now on some channels. I'm sure I can do better though. When on 28.2e - my signal strength is 75 and quality 92 - I'm sure I should be doing better on a 90cm dish. Should I be on 100% for this sat really? If so then I'm assuming getting this right will improve reception of badr4?

i get 100% all badr 4 in london using 120cm tho.. am afraid some signals could weaker for 90cm especially with UK weather

Should my strength on Astra 2d be 100% though? If so we at could be impacting this?

Different receivers give very different readings, regarding signal quality/strength readings, so generally ignore them, providing you're not getting picture break up in bad weather and the signal readings remain reasonably consistent, just ensure you have set up your dish correctly.

am using 45cm in london , the other 120cm am using it for Atlantic bird 7 now switching from Badr4
anyway even with 45cm, it pick it up with no problem with quality around 40-50.. and amazingly still ON even when it is rainy ..
there are view channels which is weaker which is mostly foreign ones, but again am 45cm .. am sure with 90cm you will have them all
