Dish bracing

Can you share some ideas/links on how to brace your dish.

I have noticed that from time to time my dish moves if we have strong wind. My dish is attached to a single vertical pole on the roof (I don't want to move it elsewhere).

Perhaps there are brackets with a rod that could attach to the edge of the dish. I briefly read that someone used wire (probably to an edge of the dish. Drilled?) and tightened it down.

Any ideas/links appreciated.

What dish do you have ? (your profile mentions a 1.2 in progress)

Can you determin e which part of the system is the cause of the signal loss , post, backplate/motor, dish reflector , feed, or a combination ?

The dish is a 1.3m dish mounted on a single vertical pole attached to the chimney. I have tightened the bolts that clamp the pole but it seems when there is strong wind the dish forces some rotation around the pole thus losing signal.

Drill a hole in the bracket and throw the pole and then insert bolt in the hole.

Or look for a bracket that has more "teeths" to hold the pole.

Do you have to realign the dish when this happens , or does it recover on its own ?

The make of dish would be useful to know (plus pictures) , just in case this has been reported before. Some cheaper dishes may not have enough integrity designed into them for a modification

Yes I have to realign it after it happens. It doesn't recover because it has rotated around the pole.

It is 142x130 but I don't remember the brand.

Ok sounds good. I think part of the problem might be that the pole is 35-40mm and is supposed to be thicker for a larger dish. The bolt idea seems good though. I will give that a shot.

Yes, that pole (and the lashing), (and the chimney) are far too small for a dish of that size.

Personally, I use flexible galvanised-steel construction "bars/strips" (various lengths are available in the building materials sections of many B&Q stores) to brace the edges of dishes to whatever is behind those dishes (and also from the edges of the dishes to the feedarms to stop the latter "waving around in the wind").

OTOH, I fully agree that that the diameter of the mast/pole is far too small for the dish you are using - and would also add that mounting that dish of that size on a chimney is NOT a good idea in the first place because the windloading could eventually cause structural damage to that chimney

I'd bet that's 99,9% of the problem.
I think I got the same dish, 40km north of nice, in a valley with some ferocious wind a few times a year, alignement has been fine for several years. Am more afraid the chimney itself getting rotated :O) Am using 2x support + 50mm pole, from 'Les Briconautes'.

Yep we have the same dish. I am going to get a 60mm pole. From the supplier he thinks that the pole will probably fix the problem and I don't need wires to prevent it turning. I will probably order it today.
