Dish for Edinburgh Flat

Was looking for a dish to put on my flat, which is going to be relativity inconspicuous to get 1w/19e/13e satellites. Was thinking of the Self Sat H21D but apparently this will not work this far north (is this correct?). Then I came across the following available at Maplin:

45cm Square Satellite Dish with LNB

Satellite dish suitable for digital reception
Performs as well as a 65cm Zone 2 mesh dish

Does anyone have this dish, as I’m unable to find any reviews online?
Are there any other options for me?

What exactly are your requirements as it's not clear?

The selfsat will work but it might not have sufficient margin for heavy rain. havent got the faintest idea how it would work if you motorised it (interesting project for someone!) for the satellites you want. It certainly wont work for multi satellite unless you motorised it

Cant you put a traditional dish up and paint it? Or hide it in amongst the chimneys or similar.

There's also of course the transparent dish, our forum advertiser sateuropa.co.uk carry them _http://www.sateuropa.co.uk/overview.asp?catid=12&subcat=2&offset=15 , but for that spread of satellites as mentioned above, you will really need to motorise it.

Well I'm looking for a dish that will receive any of the above satellites. I live in a new build flat that does not allow for the install of dishes, I have french windows with a railing which I was going to attach a dish to and as the building is off-white I figured that the Self sat or 45cm sq dish would blend and they don't have a LNB sticking out. Single LNB was going to be fine to start with, and then sometime in the future I would update to a motorized version.

I live on the 6th floor (top flat) with a clear skyline view. At one time I was thinking about trying to get a new dish installed on the roof but all of the installers I've talked to won't touch my building as we have a communal dish for sky and all of the flats are wired for Sky+. My original thought was that one of the sky+ connections would have carried the signal from a motorised dish but as I've said I couldn't find an installer and I'm a little afraid of heights.

You might still need to get approval or permission to mount a dish or the above on the building especially if it's a permanent fixing, always best to check first. It's would be seen if mounted to the balcony for sure. If you could get enough of the other tenants to agree, then an upgrade to a 9 wire IRS would do it but unlikely

It's a different antenna, it performs better I believe, as well as having a twin LNB. Certainly very well made, got one sat here.

Well, I bit the bullet and purchased from pulsat the flat dish.

I will let you all know how I get on. For now I'm just going to point at 13 & 19 but if all goes well then I'll eventually put a motor on it.

Well I've installed the dish and can pickup hotbird 13 and astra 19 no problem but I'm having major issues picking up any signal for 1w. Any advice?

Just my luck I began the whole pc dvb-s about 6 months ago. Bought a t-rex cam (which has done nothing for me) now I've got a dish that can get 13 & 19 but they have all switched encryption

Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do with this setup. I was looking for English lang channels from euro providers

I know I did p*ss poor research before hand, live and learn. But I'd like to make some gains from my investment. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I can already get fta astra 28 via a communial dish, so repointing at it would be just a waste of time.

well, on public emus (public keys) there's not an awful lot of stuff right about now, I'm afraid... have you tried pulling 1°W on your setup?

I'm going to give 1w another shot this weekend I was given some advise on another forum as to how I should align my dish, so fingers crossed.

Next step I believe will be to locate the necessary keys for my T-Rex to handle the decoding.

Well I finally found 1w but no a huge amount of stuff on it. I was able to use vplug to unscamble some of the channels but my T-Rex cam does nothing. Any suggestions?

Many receivers, once patched and with up to date keys, can still open the Digi channels - many with English programming. Check if you can get the package channels as listed in link _http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/digi.html
