Dear Barney,
nice to hear from you. I think I learnt how to assembly a huge Prodelin dish, so I would be happy to help you and other people. However it would be a good idea to wait for news from Giorgio. If he is able to receive Astra 2d in Perugia, it will be worth trying in Abruzzo with a bit larger dish.
As you certainly remember, I agreed with your earlier hypothesis on why
Astra2d is so difficult to be received in Central and Southern Italy. The hypothesis was that Astra 2A,2B and Eurobird together send too much signals from the same position (28.2-28.5 East) so that the lnb gets overload, and it is not able to captured the low signal from Astra 2d.
I noticed a similar thing just today on Hotbird. The transponder H 12145, mt2, is "hidden" by the stronger transponder V 12149. Look at what happens:
The reception of H12145 H with Prodelin 3.35 m (invacom) is NOT possible;
The reception of H12145 H with Prodelin 3.35 m (invacom) equipped with two attenuators (one near the lnb, the other near the receiver, a Golden-Interstar) is possible; signal quality 46%;
The reception of H12145 H with a primefocus 1.50 m is possible; signal quality 79%.
On the other hand, I receive many off footprint satellites (for instance Amos2
MiddleEast transponders, and Iranian channels at 62East) with my Prodelin. Of course, no trace of signals from these satellites with the smaller 1.50 m dish.
