Hi.

Can someone help me decide?

Which dish would be better for fringe reception in central Italy: Prodelin 3,0m Eight Segments or DH one piece dish 2,70m?

Thank you for your help

Hi Giorgio,

I have got a Prodelin 3.4 (=11 ft) prime focus dish (the same as www.tecatel.com). It took me a lot of time to assembly properly the eight segments.
It works perfectly. If you need some more information, please drop me private message.

Hi Coviello,

Thanks for your answer,

so Prodelin works well if assembled correctly. Do you (or any other) have any experience with DH dishes?
How do they compare with Prodelin?

Hi Giorgio,

Unfortunately, I have never had the opportunity to play with a DH dish.
Comparing with my previous 2-piece prime focus 3 m dish (locally made), Prodelin is much better. By the way I have got a 2-piece 2.4 m dish (locally made) currently unused dish. If you are interested, I lend it to you. It would be useful to test the intensity of the signal of Astra2d at your location. However I do not suppose it works properly in Lazio or in Abruzzo; it may be
in Umbria.

Hi Coviello,

actually I live in Umbria near Perugia
and I've got a one piece dish 1,80 m. Up to a few months ago I could receive BBC 1 just for about 30 minutes a day.

The dish now is old and its surface is quite irregular. It' s made of fiberglass. Now BBC is impossible to get. That's why I was thinking of buying a new one and possibly bigger. Do you think 3m wuold be enogh for Umbria?

Reading the forum I learnt that Prodelin is a good brand. Someone from Cypus, I don't remember who, also said that DH dish a very good.
I found the Prodelin dish at APEXSAT,
http://www.esa-com.com/welcomenew.asp
In particular the dish I was thinking about is this:
http://www.esa-com.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=2203&NextPage=%2FProductTree%2Easp%3FCategoryID%3D432%26PPP%3D%26SP%3D0

Do you think this is the right choice?

gio2010:

How much are you prepared to pay for a 3 meter dish?

I would really recommend a two piece UK made Precision dish if i were you.

They can't be beat for it's performance.

3.0m two piece Precision dish with AZ/EL mount cost £2,100 ex VAT + £250 for crate + shipping to Italy

..an alternative would be a Andrew(Channel Master) Offset 2.4m dish.

I don't know what the Prodelin cost?

Personally I do not think that a 3meter dish, will give you any worthwhile
reception of Astra 2D in Perugia.
I have never seen any reception reports south of Arezzo, someone once reported a 3.8 dish in Rome receiving Astra 2D.

Coviello- When you say the 3.4m works perfectly, does this mean on Astra 2D channels?
Giorgio- The Prodelin 3m dish has a midband gain of 49db.
The ChannelMaster 2.4m mentioned above by Likvid had a gain of 47.6db. That is a big difference. Check that any dish you buy has at least 49db gain in midband (11.5 GHZ) Personally, I would go for a 3.4 (49.8db) or 3.7 (50.7db), if you can afford it. Prodelin are not that expensive, and they are well made.

A Prodelin 3.0m dish is about 1237 euros, a 3.4m is 1450 euros.
The DH 2.7m dish is about 1200 euros.
To these prices you have to add VAT and transport.

Hi Giorgio,

I bought it from tripointglobal (USA).
I am not able to receive Astra 2d. But I receive all transponders of Amos2
(Israel) and numereous other off footprint satellites (such as Sirius (northbeam) and Thor (northbeam).

Impressive!
Did you have it sent from the USA or from Germany?
From Germany I was asked 450 euros for dispatch and the dish costs abut 1450 euros plus VAT. Do you think it's a fair price?

Hi Giorgio,

You were very lucky for finding a Prodelin retalier in Germany. The freight from USA costs much more (more than 1200 Euros).

Recently I modified the feed of my Prodelin. I have got a picture but I cannot
put it here in the forum since the *.jpg file is rather large (600 K:cool:.

In the Italian forum,
http://www.digital-forum.it/showthread.php?t=19731&page=2
I put some more information about the satellites I can receive with
my Prodelin.
