Shouldn't do - yes there is strain on the motor, but it should cope with that dish: Almost certainly due to wear over the years.

But if, after careful consideration, you want to take a different approach, then do you have line of sight from a ground-mounted position?

Yes I do, the back garden but the wife is not happy about it going in the back garden, however I do have children so the dish could get knocked in the garden

Anyone else have them in the garden and with kids?

Suppose could mount it high ish or is that defeating the object.

I think we should perhaps forget that idea and hope the TM2600 is tight as a camel's ar*e in a sandstorm.

Haha that is one way to put it, but yea I hope so

What is an acceptable amount of backlash, do all motors out of the box have a bit of movement on the arm?

Apparently the super jack dg 120 I have has a patent no backlash mechanism, well there certainly is movement which I guess is general wear.

Both super jacks I own have movement, however one I would call excessive but the one I have up , I thought was quite solid.

Again this never caused me a problem with my 80cm dish and there was little difference in the weight if the 80 to the 100cm I have now

All I can think if Is the bigger dish face to catch more wind or there is less give on the dish brackets which cause the motor arm to move

My Satellite Setup
Laminas 1.2M fibre dish with an IBU, on a Clarke Tech USALS motor, covering 57E - 24.5W to an Octagon SX88. Displayed on a 20" Dyon LED TV.

Seperate 80 cm dish on 28E with a Humax Freesat for SWMBO.
Free Sat V8 meter. Sony Bravia 46" LCD, Sony BluRay and Home Cinema.

I had a similar problem when I changed from a Gibertini 1M to my current Laminas 1.2M. I hadn't noticed any problem with my Technomate motor (with nylon gears) prior to the upgrade but I think the offset weight when the dish is moved away from a central position amplifies any movement in the motor arm. To be honest a 1.2M dish is pushing the capability of a diseqc motor to it's limit.

I changed the motor to a Clarke-Tech but I can't imagine there is any advantage between that and a TM2600, which is tried and tested. I managed to adjust out the backlash on the Technomate and have kept it as a spare.

Personally, I think a 1m dish should be a maximum for a DiSEqC motor despite claims that they work upto 1.2m

The Gibertini has a solid face; stuck out some 30 inches from the wall, your going to get some form of movement in the wind.

It's probably fair to say that there should be no backlash and I wouldn't expect to find it "out of the box".

With a smaller dish, backlash isn't as noticeable, however as your dish size increases, your beamwidth decreases and any dish misalignment subject to motor 'slippage' is magnified.

Believe me, techmob, you are by no means aloon in perhaps wishing your initial design had been different.

That said, trying one solution and then another .............. and another ............. is all part of the fun.

That's right - FUN!!

if i had money to spend then i would find it fun..

Can't get hold of world of satellites (cheapest) and sateuropa i have used in the past including delivery are £17 more expensive :-(

Ordering from world of satellites ,i am using them rather than ebay even though ebay are cheaper by £7 including delivery costs - just to support the site)

Yes, you've done the right thing: This new model may be the bees-wotsits, or it may not.

We don't have any feedback about it yet.

Whereas for the TM2600 we do - and it's all good.

Hmm just been looking at the Penta holding TM2600........it seems to have an identical issue as techmob's movement originating from the motor arm.

Now, I DID take the arm off to set up limit sliders but it went on exactly as it was originally fitted.

I suspect that the 49 mph gusts of today along with the give in the alloy Penta could be visually magnifying any backlash movement originating from the motor rotor [you can see it move in the breeze.

The motor has been on the pole for under 2 weeks.......

Hmm.
