I've just spent a jolly hour applying the annual coat of Kurust to all the bits and pieces holding up my motorised dish.

Most of the clamps, bolts and nuts remain serviceable with the surface corrosion easily converted to a benign form, but the Motek Motor Bracket is in a dreadful state: The original coating has more or less completely flaked off and the bracket looks pretty poor.

I shall leave it alone for now, but it looks like I may have to fit a spare in the next few months.

Has anyone experienced an actual failure of one of these brackets?

Not failure but rust on these is quite unavoidable :( If you want these to last, they should at least be repainted with Hammerite and not whatever rubbish they have on them from the factory. Or get them galvanised...

You shouldn't paint threaded rod parts, it makes them very hard to move later on, I just use heavy axle grease once it's inplace and adjusted, it does not dissipate like oils.

It's fine, I've zinc'd 1000s of bolts :) it's a little different to paint, this stuff will just flake or crumble.
But yeah I wouldn't paint them.

waxoyl is the stuff to use on the threads or even the mount although messy when first applied, when dry it leaves a waxy protective coating.

Good tip .... I have a can of that somewhere.

Bought it to prevent scuttle drainage on my last Punto Grande from rotting the bulkhead right where the brake master cylinder was attached!

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

I'd also go with greasing the threads - but would also add 2nd nuts to lock each critical nut.

Fiat had nothing on my Alfasud. A tinworm feeding frenzy. I was trying to fix an aerial on a wing, and the wing crumbled away leaving a huge hole.

I once had a Triumph Herald 1360 convertible, every time you went to use it you would have to weld a new panel in somewhere!
