Dish on Dr Who tonight

Some lower frequency signals can bounce off the ionosphere if I recall correctly from my degree some 25 years ago, but knowledge has seriously faded now.

......and you've been watching too much Dr Who! (A word of warning. Keep a spare 60cm solid dish in the van, apparently it's good for deflecting Dalek death rays. Sorry, just been watching the Dr. Who finalè)

Yes and very good it was too, loved it.

One observation though, when deflecting the dalek ray, he failed to take account of the offset angle of the dish. using it like a prime focus instead, thus it would not have worked, so it was fake.

Secondly, Can anyone identify the dish?

Well I think you can rule out Gibertini and Televes, as the LNB holder didn't look like either. It could of course be a cobbled together one fabricated by special effects and given a quick spray job. Incidentally, from what I remember when the Dr. held up the dish there was no LNB in the holder, which begs the question what was it doing on the roof? Or had the ill fated installer been swept along in the break up of the universe half way through his job?

Quite a few years back I was asked deliver a few damaged dishes to the BBC props crew, but not specifically for Doctor Who, it could well have been one of them. I will check later on today when I get a chance.

The Dish defo has an LNB on it.


Looking back, the dish was also bent at the top, looks like someone dropped it.
So could be one of yours CH.

Oh ok, must have imagined no LNB and unfortunately didn't record it nor do I have access to I Player.

Do you think it could be alu, as it would have easier for Matt Smith to hold up and manouver? Would be a nice result if it were one of CH's dishes!

Looks like one of the early Series L (OP 60 or possibly OP 75) to me. And I did give a few of these away as promo units in the late 90s, freebies from the manufacturer after the Cable and Satellite Shows. The rivets on the front are however indicative of a clone from Eastern Europe.

I'm a bit more worried that during the history lesson of the Pandorica (with the two Amy's) they showed B17's taking part in the Blitz.

IIRC, he was pointing the dish completely the wrong way when he was identifying the exploding tardis aswell.

That would be as a result of time collapsing in on itself causing all sorts of anomalies such as Nile Penguins and Ice Dinosaurs.

There wasn't, really - I refer the Hon. Gentleman to the cogent explanation given at Post #12. I suspect that space was really full of Rats, not Stars.
