Dish Setup

Hi,

i have a question about dish setup...the elevation (vertical angle of dish?) how can i know what it is...is it different per satellite? let us take for example nilesat 7 west....what is the elevation...know that i live in the northern of the Netherlands...

i would be gratefull if somebody gives me good explanation..

Hi,

It is like this:-


All the TV satellites are approx 22,000 miles above the equator, spaced out at various orbital positions.

The satellite that is closest to your longitude is highest in the sky, the others either side are lower, and get lower until they disappear below the horizon. It is know as the 'arc'

Here is a representation of the arc for the UK:-

For your location , a different satellite will be at the top.

thanks robbo7...but the website you gave me does not work...
so i still wanna know what degrees it...or how i can calculate it..
i did not remember this "elevation" was important for me when i was aligning my dish on Hotbird....it seems to be important now....

thank you ...i filled my location in and i clicked on the desired satellite, which is nilesat...and i got the following info:

Satellite: 7.0W Nilesat 101, 102 | Atlantic Bird 4
Elevation: 28.3°
Azimuth (true): 197.3°
Azimuth (magn.): 197.1°

this means i can now point my dish on this vertical position, and then i can point the dish on 7 west
i hope i am true....
