DIY Satellite and TV Ariel

Hi All

Hopefully someone can help me here. I have just bought and house and in the early stages of gutting it out. I plan to have tv in three room (living room, kitchen and master bedroom).

I want to lay all the cabling myself for the Sky and TV and was wondering what cable I need, is the cable the same for each? Also I plan to get Sky+ (I believe this uses two cables?).

I will then get someone to come fit the actual ariel, then when I have moved in get Sky round to filt the dish (as this included in the packaged when you sign up obviously).

So in short, what cabling do I require so that i can put it in, hide it in walls etc and plastered so its all nice a neat........

All you need is CT or WF100 cable for both, CT being air-spaced and WF being foam filled. I believe Maplin & B&Q stock both types... :)
 
If you're cabling from scratch you might think about combining your TV and satellite signals with a multiswitch so that you only need to run one cable to each room and use a triplexer to split the signals at the room end. You could even run 2 cables to each room and use a quadplexer so that you're ready for $ly+ (or even the new Freesat service?).

It's a bit more expensive but you have greater flexibilty.
 
If you're going to get through a lot of cable it may pay to enquire at an electrical wholesaler, I saved quite a bit this way, they may have the f connectors also.

Better to go via an aerial wholesaler, they are more likely to have the better quality cable.
 
Hello everyone,

Thanks to those that responded with their comments.

I have bought a 100meter length of WF100, all the F connectors and ariel screw into F connector connections (if that makes sense). I will use this cable for both tv and satellite (SKY+) and will cable it in myself connecting from the main ariel to a 3 way splitter - will see what the signal is like as it may need a booster.

You only need the aerial to feed the point near the digibox, then if you loop it through the Sky+ box, send it back to the loft and use a TV link compatible amp in the loft to serve the other TVs with terrestrial TV and the output from the Sky+ box. :)
