DM 800 and VLC

Hello everyone,

My old 5620 died and I've bought a DM800. I want to set up vlc player to play back divx videos with my 800 but I am stuck. Could anyone help how to configure both the server and the client side? The image is Nabilo Black Hole 0.7.

1. Install latest VLC Player - with full instead of standard or custom settings.
2. Upon completion, go to your desktop icon click right button and go to propreties.
In Target field it should say something like this "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" so go to the end of the line and add following text: --intf wxwin --extraintf=http
So the complete line looks like: "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http
3. Run your VLC and minimize it
4. Now go to your box, press GREEN button to get into plug in menu and click on VLC plug in.
5. Creating a server by clicking GREEN buttons, or edit current with YELLOW buttons, and these are the options I had:
Server Name: Wotever
Enter VLC-Server as FQDN or IP-Address: IP-ADDRESS
Server Address: put in ur address 192.168.0.23
HTTP Port: 08080 (Default)
Movie Directory: f:/ (this is on my network drive, yours might be different, e.g. c:,d:, wotever).
DVD Device: didn't worry about
Transcode MPEG/DVD Video: YES
Video Codec: MPEG2
Video Bitrate: 2000 is default, play around with it untill ur happy with the resolution.
Video Resolution: Same deal, adjust untill you like the result
Everything else can stay default, only audio I've change to mp3 and that was it.
6. Once server is set up, press GREEN button to confirm the changes.
7. Click on the server, and you should be in directory specified, choose a movie and play it.
 
I'm having some problems changing target file for vlc to what you have suggested (C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http) i get message saying,

The name C:\program' specified in the target box is not valid. Make sure the path file and file name are correct

Oh by the way my O/P system is vista home
premium, and vlc player version is 0.9.9

Check your path for VLC or just add this to the target you alread have (--intf wxwin --extraintf=http ) My VLC is in "D:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe"and by cutting and pasting (C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http) I get the same error as you.

What Dbacc was trying to explain was, you find your vlc target you already have and after that add in the line --intf wxwin --extraintf=http

So for Howc your target should have been like this:
"D:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http

If you don't have an Icon on your desktop you should locate the vlc application where it was installed and right click on it, the popup list should have Send To -> Desktop (Create shortcut) This will create a shortcut and from there just follow Dbacc post Step 2.

Shall I try to change this in target in properties or as to the vlc.exe file in programs ? as I am not able to change in target in properties. I keep getting error message

You miss the " before D:\.....
Change it to "D:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http
 
Right click the vlc icon on your desktop
Select "properties and then click the "shortcut" tab
In the "target" box there will be something like "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" This is what you need to change to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http but exactly what it says will depend on your setup. Sorry if I confused you.


P3t3r_2 was correct when he said (and I quote)

You need to make the changes in the desktop shortcut not the vlc.exe file itself.
 
Sorry about late reply had a death in family so could not check out how to fix,
I have manage to change setting to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" --intf wxwin --extraintf=http

Hi, Has anyone managed to get this to work with Vista Ultimate?

I have set up VLC on the Vista machine as described above and vlc is running, I have a open share set up for my drive but when I set the Movie Directory on the dm800 server settings it never finds the drive.

My share is set to "L:\Films" and the share name is "Films" my question is what do I set the Movie Directory setting to? Do I have to use a full path or just the share name ? Or are there some wierd settings in Vista that are stopping me ?

I have found this Forum very usefull and informative with some excellent guides as I am a newbie to the DM800 and the whole Linux box thing :) but this one I just can't seem to sort out :(

how do you input colons ect with the remote?
 
keep pressing the zero key.
 
whats the best settings for xvids? just tried it and the quality was pretty poor, when i use a usb drive through my dvd player the same file is far better

I have made it to step 6 where i can acess the server but it crashes every time i play a movie!?
 
When I try to connect my DM800 to PC via VLC I get the error
"Error loading playlist into server Server1:
<urlopen error (145, 'Connection timed out')>

I'm running Windows 7 64bit version on my PC. Can anyone please help? (VLC version is 8.6c. I had the latest version too which gives the same error. So I tried lower the version, but still failed)
