HI guys, I was surfing the dreambox sites today and spotted this, the internal DVD burner drive for the DM8000.

The purpose of this post is to determine what exactly is the requirement for the DVD drive in the DM8000. You'll notice this guy wants £129 for this drive. Is he taking the f8cking p1ss ! Safe to say, this guy has a bad reputation and I would stay well clear.

Here's a couple of alternatives but will anything do ???

As you can see these drives are around the £30 mark. The site I've used does have a good rep !

I'm not a Dm8000 owner yet, I'm waiting for the £ to recover a little, but when it does, I'll be having one. Just thought this might be one thing people are looking at.

Moving hastily on from your first link :-Nooo

I have a Samsung SN-S083A, so far no problems with it.
This is a tray type drive, there's also a slot-in one (SN-T083A) available.

Someone has had some problems with the LiteOn model you have referenced, may be just a problem drive.

Can't speak for the Pioneer model, probably OK.

So there's no special requirements mate ? Any laptop sata drive will do ?
 
AFAIK they all have the same form factor and connections - 7-pin SATA+6 pin power terminal for the DB8000 adaptor to plug into.

Having just ordered the DM8000 I'm now hot on the tail of a slot loading DVD burner for it. I'm surprised how hard it is to find something suitable. There's plenty of tray loading DVD burners around , but finding a slot loading sata burner is proving difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions please ?
 
Hi MCC

The Sony AD-7670S slot-in drive is OK for the DM8000. A search will yield several sellers in the UK.

When the package arrives, there's a nice shiny black box inside. Make sure you don't lose the DVD adaptor which lurked at the bottom of mine - I had to get back up the loft to retrieve it :eek:

Oh, and there's another shiny black box in there too - the DB8000 :-rofl2

Yeah , the temptation got the better of me mate. Screw the £. It will probably be 2 years before it gets anywhere close.

I'll be writing a lot about the 8000 as I did with the 800.
