China clone I assume ?

There doesn't seem to be much info available on it yet. Anything I've seen all seems to come from the same source, and its Not DMM.

I really dont see the point in this box, compared like for like with the DM800, the only differences seem to be lack of USB ports and support for an internal HDD on the DM500. Also the DM500HD has HDMI instead of DVI.

If the unit does indeed include a HDMI output then for me that confirms its nothing to do with DMM. DMM were denied the HDCP licence for the 800 / 8000 hence the use of the DVI output.

And it states a better chip set than the 800 @ 400MHz, the 800 has a 300MHz processor

Its not a clone/it the genuine article
If you look at the spec sheet showing HDMI the HDCP bit is crossed out so no licence is required

New HD Dream for ANGA

By Donald Koeleman | May 15, 2009 | 09:40 UK

ANGA CABLE 2009 - COLOGNE. The set-top vendor Dream Multimedia will be showing its new DM500 HD HD receiver at ANGA later this month.

The DM500 will join the higher-end single tuner DM800 HD PVR and all singing, all dancing DM8000 twin-tuner PVR and DVD recorder.

Aimed at allowing a fully personalized use of the Dreambox, with its hard drive, DVD burner, WLAN and interchangeable tuner for digital cable, satellite and terrestrial reception and flexible Linux operating system, the DM8000 remains Dream’s ‘highlight’.

“The DM8000 provides clear evidence that the consumer certainly does want all-in-one units. Nobody wants a whole stack of equipment in his living room. The DM8000 HD PVR DVD provides all the benefits of digital television in a single unit“, explains Dream’s Alpaslan Karasu.

Dream Multimedia has reportedly had difficulty keeping up with demand for its high-end box.

Thats the same article I read. All I could find anywhere else (Though I didn't look too hard) were other references to that article.

I just cant see DMM releasing another model with features so similar to the DM800, then name it after the DM500 which they discontinued. If they wanted to cause confusion in the market. Then that would be the way to do it. Tell everyone not to buy new DM500s because they are clones, then release another model with the same name (almost).

Thats all speculation of course, we'll see :)

It is an official DMM box

I think this box is to simply replace the SD version now discontinued.
As long as the price is a similar price to the old entry level system, this will be an extremely popular box!!

I didn't even think the box was on sale yet?, you want an image for it?

Well, I guess I'm going to be eating my own words here :) DMM unveiled this box at a recent show.

The camerawork is poor...

The normal DM500 was a popular model.. Even yet it is still popular..

Is it gonna have to be alot cheaper than the 800 series for it to catch on.. ??????

dreambox shop is already taking pre-orders. It is one of the official distributors of dream in the UK. Price £299 which is not that competitive against DM800.

More expensive than an 800 clone.

So no chance this will catch on.
(except I guess with with clone market where it may do ok)

This is the website description - it is a higher spec than DM800 (except maybe that it does not have USB as this is not clear from picture).

The picture has a ring around the USB socket with the remark "nu 232" which seems to indicate it is now an RS232 port.
They also cannot tell me whether it is Linux based or like the DM100, but first deliveries are expected next month.
Correction: ihad, in an old post, confirmed that it is Enigma2 based and that image downloads are already, and have been sometime, available for download.
Also from this thread: it has a DVB-S2 tuner as does the DM800.
