DreamBox 500 Newbie Pointers

Hi,

Firstly, thanks in advance for any help I get.

I am new to dreambox, I have bought one, set it up and get all the free to air channels. I subscribe to some premium channels and am using the card in the DM500 and getting unable to decrypt.

I am running the default Image it came with 1.0.9.

Is there a better image to run, if so where can I download it?
What emulater/add in do I need for it to read from the internal card reader? Again where can I download it?

Yes it will happily read the card - HOWEVER you need to do lots of reading to understanding whats what on one of these receivers and the capabilities of it.

Avoid Gemini images - pick the wrong one and it will scrap your receiver!

Where do I start the reading?

I am thinking of loading "pli-Jade3-dm500-20090627-6494" image which I have.

Where do I get add-in to work the reader, I know CCAm works where can I read up and download this from?

OK, I managed to get it working so I could watch my subscribed channels using my Card.
1. Installed Pli image mentioned above.
2. Configured CCcam 2.1.4.
3. Configured newcs 1.6.
4. Used the following website to create the boxkey (as the config creator was not creating it for some reason) NDS boxkey generator
5. Used config creater from http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/blogs/b16mcc/dreambox-utils-for-windows/ to create both Cccamd.cfg and newcs.xml and uploaded to my dm500.

Ok next question, I get all the channels FTA and the ones I am subcribed to, how do I configure the DM500 to pick up the other channels as at the moment it is only showing BslyB ones.

Also, I know my box isnt HD, but if I get a HD DM, such as DM800 HD is there additional work I need to do to get the HD stuff working?

As I said before thanks to all who responded, I have conme back and added tasks I did so anyone in future can follow and configure.

First of all well done in getting the DB to read your Sky card. You should already have a confidence boost in using the 500 :)

"Other providers"?? - assuming you mean channels on other satellites you will need either a second dish and a disecq switch or some sort of motorised setup.

Note - some 500's are known to be VERY poor at driving dishes due to substandard power supplies in them....!
 
Also if you get an HD dreambox you won't automatically get sky HD. You will need to pay sky an extra £10 a month for the HD channels. If you have managed to get the 500 going then you will have no problems setting one up.
 
Tom, Thanks, I am already subscribed to HD, the reason for buying the DM500 was it was cheaper than HD and allowed me to "learn" what was needed.

AnalogueSat, Thanks, I dont mean channels from other sat's, what I meant was channels available on UK Sat but not nesaccerily owned by BslyB.

I have downloaded "Sly UK Bouquets v2.8 May 26th 2010" from this forum and am hoping it has all the channels in there.

Can someone tell me what location I need to put these files on the Pli Image please?

I will have a look around to see if I can spot.
 
Ok,

Sat Scanning is still baffling me I guess.

The bouquets list went in, but I still get service not found when choosing from the uploaded list. The channels I am talking about are mostly in the 800+ channel numbers on Sly uk.

Any pointers, What is needed on the image I am using to get these additional channels scanned.

Why wont a scan pick these up?
 
The reason you cant find some of the channels is that they closed a long time ago:

the two DD channels ceased about 2 years ago!

Mana Teluga went at least a year back

AIT Moviestar went earlier this year

Some of the channels you are looking for are pay channels - Aag / Geo / ARY for starters, so make sure you are doing a full channel scan not just a fta scan. - btw unless you are subscribed to these three channels with the additional monthly payments you wont get them anyway

Music India isnt transmitted on 28E
