Can I use my old sky digital dish with my Dreambox 500 and if so how do I set up?
Step by steps instructions would be much appreciated if possible.

Hello

Welcome to the forum phil74

Yes you can use your old sky dish assuming it is either of the the ones in picture below and not the analogue version as the latter will require a universal lnb fitting. As regards getting sky italia football, you will of course need a subscription unless you are intending card sharing in which case I suggest you read the rules very carefully.

As for advice on what to do please click the forum button just under the logo and scroll down to the appropriate sections of this self help forum to find out about dish intallation etc

Nobody is going to give you simple instructions about c/s'ing - if you want to know theres many hours of research and head-scratching in front of you.

phill 74 its not the knowledge of how things work but the knowledge of how to get it to work that counts, this can only be done by learning m8, advise can be at hand if you try and fail that's the learning curve !!

Hi there, New to this so please bear with me. I have got a DM 500-s today, and I cannot find how to set it up with my existing Sly Dish with a (WNC- Wistron Universal Quad LNB: FF8 13671).
Please can someone tell me what the settings are supposed to be so I can get it running to see freeview at first.

I have tried to find setting info but I end up with a lot of dead links.
Thank You in advance.

Should be straightforward, pick Astra 28.2 in the satellites menu, then do a channel scan. :) Job done.

Thanks, I tried it it all as I didn't want to annoy anyone by asking basic questions but cannot get it to see any channels in the scan, I was wondering if the settings for the LNB etc maybe wrong, I cannot find any references to what they all should be.

LNB should be universal, 9,750/10,600 22Khz AUTO

Still no luck :(

Ok please if I may write the screen details here:

Under Service Searching:

1 Satellite Configuration, I have
one single satellite
Astra2/Eurobird 1 (28.2E) direct connection

2 Satfind I have
SNR 0%
AGC 0%
BER 0
Satellite Astra2/Eurobird 1 (28.2E)
Transponder 10744/22000/H

Skip to 4 Transponder Scan I have
Astra2/Eurobird 1 (28.2E)

search in progress.....

SNR 99%
SGC 99%
BER 0
no Lock and no Sync

Skip to manual Transponder Scan I have

Satellite: Astra2/Eurobird 1(28.2E)
Frequency: 12551 mhz
Polarity: Vertical
FEC: 5/6
Symbol Rate 22000 KSymb/s
SNR 0%
AGC 0%
BER 0
no Lock no Sync

What am I doing wrong Oh great ones? ... :-ohcrap

Try these values in advanced search: 12207 V Symbol rate: 27500 FEC: 2/3. Report back.

Thanks, Just tried this, says Transponder Scan Done. 0 new transponders, 0 new tv services, 0 new radio services, 0 new data services. 1 Transponders with 0 services scanned. :(

lets not give up just yet, are you sure your dish & cabling is fine? Did you fit a new f connector & maybe balls it up, i.e. maybe the braid is touching the centre conductor?

Hi, I simply disconnected my sly plus box and connected one of the two lnb cables to the sat in connection on the dm500s box, yesterday I tried the other output from the lnb but still its the same.

You didn't leave one connection still connected the the Sky box did you as even in stand-by a Sky box dictates LNB control?

Have you made sure LNB power is on in the menu system, (If there is an opition for this!?) also make sure 22Khz signal is on. The transponder I gave you earlier works and has free to air stuff on it, so its not like were searching dead transponders here.

22KHz should be automatic if a Universal LNB option is selected.

Leaving it permanently on (if the option somehow isn't denied when Universal settings are applied) can and has caused problems by effectively only permitting High Band to be received.

Edit: Just noticed rolfw has already said 22KHz = Auto in Post 9.

More wine, dear?

tried it on/off still no luck, could be a faulty tuner I suppose :( Is there anywhere I can get a copy of each setting on each page of the Service Searching menu, so that I can check step by step?
