Hi i have a dreambox 500s it has been working fine for a year or so but switching it on just after new year had kicked in it kept resetting itself and switching off,it was doing this over and over but now i am getting nothing just a black screen and the green light is on.please help as any info would be really apreciated thankyou
Also is there a fix out there for it or will i have to buy another
 
Have you tried flashing it? Can you connect with telnet, http, ftp.......?

You'll need to provide more info before anyone can help.

If you cant connect to it over LAN, I would try installing a fresh copy of the latest firmware of your choice (Provided its not a Clone DM500 and you dont intend installing Gemini).

If you are lucky, that might be enough to get you up and running.
 
Hi im quite sure it was not a clone i think i payed around £110 over a year ago and it had gemini installed,on opening the dcc file its saying error 10057 in function send socket is not connected,i havent a clue what this means as i am quite new to this and have never had any problems in the past,if theirs any more info needed i will try and give thanks again...
 
Hi the light on the modem is saying that it is connected to dreambox but am only getting a black screen plus the green light on the dreambox is on and does not flash when you operate the remote,HELP!!!!!!!!

Have you tried flashing it as compufunk suggested?
Will need a null modem cable and a PC.
Use DreamUp utility with LAN unchecked.
 
I am going to buy the null modem cable from maplins tomorrow morning but is it the 9 pin to 9 pin one i need,im only asking as i have never done this before but should be a good starting block to start many thanks...
 
I have had this before and turning off and resetting the router has usually done the trick.
But as the others say if this does not work i reckon maybe a surge in electric on New Year might have messed it up and needs reflashing as i get this as well.
 
Thanks to everyone who has replied and i will let you know how i get on tomorrow but yes it could of been a surge because it happened not long after midnight on new years eve as i said it started like the box had reset itself then just after the GP image appeared on screen it used to switch off and reset again,doing this over and over again until it stopped showing anything on screen alltogether but fingers crossed it just needs flashing as you dont really apreciate the box until its gone :-worship

I flashed the box and its back from the dead ,thanks to everyone who replied all the best to everyone on this great forum :)
 
I think i have just found out what was causing the problem the whole time,on connecting the motorised dish back up then from watching a channel on 28.2E i was tuning to a channel on 23.5E the dish was just starting to turn and guess what ,yes the box started resetting itself over and over again)(-red
So im guessing that their must be some short in the motor as all wires were well covered so no rain got in,now im using my standard sly dish and all is well
 
well guys sorry i havent posted back its that i havent bothered with it since but changed my mind other day ,i also forgot to mention that just before it went down the power supply packed in and i decided to use a normal 12V adaptor i found in my cellar,so i wonder if that is causing the prob because if you dissconnect the aerial from back of box it seems to run as normal i.e doing as it should searching for a sat but as soon as you connect the aerial back in it goes down again,i also forgot to mention i have bought a brand new motor and its still doing the same,i am now at my wits end plzzzzzzzzz help:confused:

What is the power rating of the 12V adapter and how good is it's voltage stability?
It probably doesn't give enough current output and certainly doesn't have a stabilized DC voltage output like the PS of the Dreambox.
 
heres what it says on the adaptor:
INPUT:240V~50Hz
OUTPUT:12V-500mA

Im hoping its just the power supply thats wrong with it as i have ordered a new PS of ebay but if it is the dreambox has any1 got a cheap 1 for sale
please help as i am now at wits end arghhhhhh
 
I'll check the power rating on my power supply at lunch time and let you know, (If someone else doesn't between times)

Like HB13DISH, I would have a strong suspicion that its a case of not enough juice to power the receiver, motor + LNB.

500mA is not going to run a dreambox, motor and lnb no way at all:eek:

It is only enough to trickle charge your mobile phone battery

Thanks and i hope your right but ill just have to wait a bit longer and my new PS is coming from china but i will let you know how it runs when it arrives thanks again ..bryan..
 
Just for the record, the output on my DM600 power supply is....
12v @ 3A (or 3000mA).
 
Thanks guys problem is now fixed ,it was the power supply,mine came today and hey presto dish is now turning and no problems,so to anyone out there if your dreambox power supply fails dont just use any 12v power supply make sure you buy the original one for a dreambox;)
 
guys,
i have the same problem as bluenosebryan. my dreambox dm 500s is working for maximum of 30 minutes then goes dead. i have to left it unplugged for a while then power it up for about another 30 minutes! and goes dead again. is it powersupply or image problem? i am using the original power supply come with dreambox.. please help.. i bought it just a week ago!
