Hi, I was wondering whether it is possible to change or recover the dreambox password if you don't know it?

I bought my dreambox 500s of a bloke whose asking me 200 euros a month to watch channels.

I've tried downloading tuxbox commander but it isn't possible because when i hit the blue panel, and press Download and Install, there comes an error saying:

url:500/0360:addons.xml

Please help:(

Thats a rip off.

If your ditching this guy, why not just flash the box with a new image?

Are you nuts??? You could get 2 or 3 subscriptions of your own for that!
 
TuxBox Commander -> folder /var/etc/ press 4 on remote control = passwd

root:XXXXXXXXXX:0:0:root:/home/root:/bin/sh

delete X , (crypted old paas)

root::0:0:root:/home/root:/bin/sh

press OK, exit & save
 
He says Tuxbox wont load ;)

Commander :)

Starta Tubox Commander if its instaled and klick to: var/etc/passwd (passwd = password file ).....

to be honest, I'm a newbie to all this. If I flash the box with a new image and all, will I be able to watch the encrypted channels? If yes, how?

Err no - most of the European packages are secure now and have been for a very long time. DigiTV on 1W is the last big package and even they are nearing the end of a card swap.

okay..so say I subscribe for ONE package...can I get ALL the other packages for free?

ok so what exactly is card sharing then?
what is the fun of a dreambox? can't yu better just get a regular receiver, get your packages and watch the channels?

I have no idea, never tried it on morality grounds.
All we said is you can buy a subscription for your favorite package and it will not cost the outrageous monthly payments that you mentioned.
You can still use a Dreambox to watch a legal sub card, when you put it in the card reader and use a software CAM like CCcam (will depend on which card you subscribe to, as not all cards will open this way or get the validation dates right).
If you prefer a different receiver that is recommended by the provider, it would be a better solution for you.

ok, so there is NO WAY I can watch channels for free on the dreambox 500?

Hello to all experts,
I have DM500S on GP 4.3 image on a payserver, so username and password are hidden. I install Tuxcom 1.16 from gemini server, installed successfully, but going to the editting window, requires the password. Unlike on the GP 4.2 version you can go to "edit window" without asking for the password. This GP 4.3 requires password first before you can go to edit window. I can't flash my DM since my username and password to access for the payserver in the cfg file is there, and re-flashing it means lossing it. Hope there's other way to find the password. Please need help from the experts. Thanks a lot in advance for the prompt help...

you´ll have to go to /var/etc and Open CCcam.cfg
write down this config on a letter
(or even on a Unix editor on PC not Notepad or something else)
and check for right writing!
if you wrote that ..
you can flash a new image (remember only non clone Images for clone Boxes)
then download on Bluepanel the newest CCcam.
put the CCcam.cfg file to /var/etc back again and you´ll have all like the Old one without any Password!
(standard user login : "root" standard Passwd is "Dreambox")
you can Transfer the Files via Filezilla or evry FTP Program you like..
but all need a little Knowledge about the file system and the Structure of Dreambox!
