dreambox recording

I am amazed!! just got my dreambox 500s recording on to my computer and i'm able to watch it back on my tv, perfect picture, i am truly amazed, incredible!!! Who needs a dreambox 70** kool stuff!!

just a couple of questions:

1) how do i make the mute button on the remote become a record button?

2) i've placed an mp3 and some movies in the movie folder, the mp3 appears on the dreambox but the movies don't and for some reason the mp3 doesn't play, how do i fix this and is it possible to watch these movies through the dreambox on the tv?

3) is there anyway of changing the quality of the recordings? so that they don't take as much space?

Answer to (1) is: Add a record button to the remote

Only .mpg (mpeg2) are playable, not .avi or divx etc. You have to use VLC to stream these. There are some guides here but I've never managed to do it.

Quality? Don't know. Why bother?

i'll have a go at the record button thing, let u know how it goes.

so, u can play these movies that are in different formats on the tv though the vlc? i'll have a look about see what i can find.

Burn them to a dvd or delete them ;)

How did u go about recording from the 500? do you have a how to or did you come across this on this forum? have a 500 myself and havn't got round to doing this yet..any help would be appreciated..

its all in the idiot guide. some advice, disconnect ur firewall, and when u try and record with the timer chose dvr instead of ngrab or switch. otherwise u should be fine if u follow the idiot guide. by the way did it with gbox and gemini 3.0 i don't know if u've got the same.

found this guide for video streaming from pc to dreambox. works great!

this is the solution to my second question, u guys might want to add it to the idiot guide since there's nothing about it on there. It worked almost perfect, the guide is slightly out dated but still more than useful... this is probably the simplest way of successfully streaming to the dreambox.

I could never get it to work (as shown in ingmar)- think my router is preventing something.

strange! have u made an exception in ur firewall? basically didn't have to change much on the settings besides the pc ip and the drivers it uses i.e. in my case drive c: (server movie directory) and d: (server cd/dvd directory) everythingelse i just left the same. and u do have to wait a while for the video to buffer.. like 20 secs and try some different video formats. i use gemeni 3.0 and gbox are u using these? even dvd's worked, but had to change the chapters to chapter 2... did u use firefox? the webinterface that i used was version 5.9. the vlc version that i used was the latest one 0.8.5.
