DVD/VCR combo with HDMI

Can anyone suggest a decent-ish DVD/VCR combo unit with HDMI out connection? It doesn't need to be a recorder - just a basic player.

My parents bought a fancy new Sony TV without a SCART socket and without a converter for one, and bother their DVD and VCR units are on the brink...
 
Whew, that'll be a tough find.

Thinking sideways, the TV may not have a scart input but surely it'll have phono inputs for stereo and composite video? Maybe at the front under a flap? Then you can get an ordinary combo unit - not that there are many of those around now.
 
The Panasonic DMR-EZ47V should fit your needs Captain Jack....DVD /VHS Recorder with Freeview and HDMI 1080P and Component outputs....There is a few for sale on ebay UK .....
 
That TV needs one of those weird extension cables to plug in cinch connectors into it, which is not included with the TV. Not expensive to buy I guess... It does have component input if that makes it easier.

Thanks for Panny shout. To be honest, it's a little expensive - I was hoping to not spend more than around £100 max...
 
Why not just get a scart to HDMI adapter, if they'll work.

The Panasonic DMR EZ47V/48V/49V are excellent machines - combined Freeview tuner, VHS Recorder and DVD Recorder. They will copy VHS to DVD, DVD to VHS and record Freeview to either VHS or DVD. I have a DMR EZ49V (the last produced model) which does not have component video (YUV) output but does have HDMI, 2 x SCART (Composite and RGB ) and phono composite video outputs.

A generic remote (and virtually any other Panasonic DVD/Bluray remote will control playback but most lack some functions particularly copying and editing functions

There have been quite a few VHS/DVD combos over the years ranging from el cheapo Chinese generics to the high end Panasonics with various combinations of VHS playback, VHS record, DVD Playback and DVD Record.

HDMI output tended to only be on the higher end machines down presumably to the cost of the analogue to digital conversion circuitry
 
It worked on my mothers television, but then again it was provided with the television.
I have seen claims that certain versions work with some Samsung televisions, ot at least being claimed to work.

The ones supplied with TVs is NOT a SCART to HDMI lead - it plugs into a non standard SCART socket so is merely converting one type of SCART socket to another and is NOT converting an analogue to digital signal - impossible with a mere cable.

The non standard SCART socket on Samsung TVs is down to the lack of space on the TV
 
Agree with Dave. That's a standard Samsung SCART to TV converter for Samsung only. Similar to the one that Sony TV is missing!

I can't recall what television my parents bought, I just recall a similar cable, to the one I posted, that worked with their old VCR, when I initially set it up.
It was a LED backlit TV, 32", from quite a few years back.
It wasn't needed, in the end, as I set their VCR to run through their Panasonic DVD recorder, Scart out, on the VCR, to Scart in on the DVD recorder, then HDMI cable from the DVD recorder to the television, as they planned to record their video cassettes to the DVD hard drive then burn them to disk, something that they never got round to doing, when they realized how long it would take, to transfer all their cassettes to disk.

That’s how I do transfers here, there is no additional time spent though, simply put tapes on play overnight, then edit out the last two hours and advert breaks from the hard drive the next morning. Burn to disc, simples.

The only problem was that my old Panasonic DVD writer didn't have a hard drive, when I did mine, so I had to manually stop recording, to cut out the advertisement breaks.
It was also very noticeable how poor the video tape quality was, especially as I'd recorded in long Play mode.
 
This is my parents you're talking about - they just want "on" and "off" buttons on their remotes. Anything beyond that and they need a flowchart diagram...

I bought the Panny CH linked me to for £80, so not a bad deal.
 
Good Luck with the "DMR-EZ47V" Captain Jack...Hope its a good one !....and you find a remote for it...

Also as a bonus...The DMR-EZ47V also can record to the double or single sided special Panasonic DVD Ram Discs that can be edited !....(a bit like a small HDD)...They come in a protective plastic case that fits directly in to the DVD tray and also can be locked !
