Hi guys, just wanted to see what people are using to edit the TS files created when recording on your Dreambox. I often FTP to my mac and edit them using MPEG streamclip, its a great little util but rather outdated now as it was developed for Enigma1 and has some nice tools included. I've tried again recently to edit a HD recording with it and it won't even open the file , even a small sample at around 1gb file size.

So what you using guys, windows or mac, any good software out there ?

Hi B16mcc

I use HDTVtoMPEG2, it can convert a HDmpeg2 transport stream (ts) to a standard MPEG2 extremely fast.

Also it allows you to edit, cut out commercials, join several ts to one ts file and so on....

Most important its freeware :)

Thanks for that.

So far, I have found a nice OSX app, priced at $35 I don't think that's bad at all. Aimersoft Video Converter. It seems to handle the large HD TS file with no problem and gives a massive selection of formats that it can convert to. It can do a little editing and cropping but you can only set a start and finish time for your video, so its no good for chopping out ad breaks in one go. This is a likely candidate for me, but I'm gonna look further before I make any purchase.

I use DVR Studio Pro for editing recorded files on my Triple Dragon. (came at a discount for TD owners). Haven't used it for the Dreambox yet.

Tailored specifically for many receivers (including the DB8000).

Plenty of DVD authoring stuff included.

Ouch! just checked the price on their site - 75 Euro

I'm using VideoReDo... :)

Thanks for the input so far guys, I've found all the apps mentioned and the DVRStudio pro has a HD version in beta, but its german yet. It does say an english version is coming soon. Being a MAC man I'd like to find something native to OSX. My search continues and I'll update with any findings.

If anyone wants help with these softwares, do shout and I'll do my best.

VideoReDo works well if there is a video stream

I want to edit a file from the Radio side.

Any ideas

Thanks

VideoRedo (H264 version) or Transport Stream Packet Editor (TSPE); TSPE & TSDoctor both preserve the teletext subtitle stream which is somehow not recognised by VRD or something apparently.

I also find DGAVCDecDI AVC Decoder and Frame Server (uses DiAVC decoder) helps with encoding with Sky's MBAFF/PAFF scan type when DGAVCindex flatlines, there's an NV edition that offloads decoding to GPU via NVidia's CUDA acceleration.

astral69: Are they just .ts files too? you could simply demux the audio and use something like Audacity to cut/trim the lead-in/out.

It is a .ts file from my Dreambox, but has no video component as it is a satellite radio broadcast - BBC World Service

VideoReDo rejects it due to the lack of video..........
which is a shame as it is a really nice piece of sw for video trimming

Audacity thinks it is MP3 and will import it, but press the play button and garbage comes out.

I ended up using a trial version of Total Video Convertor to produce an MP3 file
and then trimmed it with Audacity.

I am not really into paying for a piece of sw (TVC) that I may only use once a year.

Can u post a sample to sendspace or something? Have you tried tsMuxer to extract the audio stream?

Thanks.
tsMuxer did the job nicely, giving me an .mpa file
that was then read by Audacity for trimming.
