Email Clients for windows ?

So ..
you may well remember the good old days when microsoft included outlook express in their OS ..
This of course was dropped with win7 ....so I took to using Thunderbird ...
which was ok sort of ...as it did the job ..
but now Thunderbird is having trouble processing my email pulled from talk talk ...
occasionally refusing login ...but worse ...today is refusing to allow outgoing mail via smtp ..
I know not why ..
It may be that talk talk has dropped this ability ...but it may just be incompatibility with Thunderbird.
Most folk these days use webmail ...and I too can do this ...but I much prefer a client which can poll several mail accounts ...
Something that outlook express was very good at..

So ..
Do any of you guys use still use an email client ?
If so ..what can you recommend ..?
It needs to be totally compatible ..with all protocols ..and able to poll or push email from muliple servers ideally...
I want no frills and bloatware ...just good old fashioned email management on my desktop..
suggestions welcomed.
Easy setup ...
ie create account ..username and password ...then access server to send receive email..
Calendars and other crap are not needed ..

Yes, the interweb thingy is full of Thunderbird-TalkTalk incompatibility, all seemingly solvable.

Have a shufti, cos you won't find anything better than Thunderbird.

btw ...I built another pc today ...currently win7 ...and wait for it ...
Mint
dual boot using Grub ..
and hopeful I have left space to try 8.1 with classic desktop as well ..
So will eventually be Triple boot..
Time I had a Linux machine ...but only for experiment ..
I wont be moving over permanently..

To be honest I no longer use email on a PC at all, nowadays it's all on my iPhone email client.

Use that quite a lot.

And stopped using the ip's email service, and I stick to google.

That way I am free to change providers, and not lose loads of things in keep folders/notes/calendars etc

...and I guess lack of client based IP email service useage is why microsoft figured it no longer a neccessary part of the Operating system...
that and the move to web based email ..where more advertising exposure can be thrown at joe public ...
not so easy to advertise on a purely text based system...

(try telling that to the viagra salesman tho')

..then theres the fffing cloud ...

I get why it fell into dis-use...but I'm old fashioned and find less is more when it comes to direct communication...
I hate distraction ..and being spoon fed carp whilst being dragged around by the nose ..like a prize bull at a cattle auction..

If you need a mail client in W7 just go to the MS download and install Windows Live Mail which is a part of the Live Essentials. Its for free.

As for your problem with SMTP: Check the security settings (Port number, server name). They probably changed from unsecured access to SSL and therefore your standard port 25 (SMTP) will not work anymore. Try 587 for SSL or 465 TLS.

I still use Outlook, good for multiple email accounts, unfortunately it is as far as I know, only available as part of Microsoft Office.

I prefer a client as often read mail offline. Currently using Opera Mail.

Yes, on my personal Mac I am using Outlook as well. It's just a decent client. Not free... but, ahem.. easily available from more questionable sources.

On my work Mac I am using built in Mail client - not perfect but suits me better than Outlook there.
