Empty satellite list

My Satellite Setup
Philex HD portable satellite system
My Location
Edinburgh, Scotland
I’m trying to set up a Philex HD portable satellite system that I bought it off ebay. I know it’s about 5 years old but it clearly has never been use.

The problem is that the Satellite List is empty apart from one called MBC. I have searched for it but can't get a sensible signal quality. I know my dish setup is OK as I can get a good signal from Astra 28 on my old SD kit in exactly the same position.

Is there any way I can manually enter Astra 28 (as that is all I’ll ever want)?

Thanks in advance.

Post some photos of the menus and settings.

Is it this receiver?

Change LNB Freq to Universal or 9750/10600. If you can edit the transponder change it to 11426 H 27500.

My instruction leaflet was printed in 2018.

I showed the 3/2016 edition as that was all I could find on line at the time. I have the 3/2018 edition. But in essence, would anything significant have changed in the period?

Getting back to the LNB frequency, I've changed it - without any improvement. (See attached). There's no option to change the transponder, ie (1/1)

What are the options for scanning? If there's a blind scan option try it. There should also be a transponder list that can be edited.

Sorry, don't understand what you mean about scanning. There's no other transponders - thats what (1/1) means: one transponder on a list of one.

Single Satellite Search, on page 8 of the pdf you linked to in post #5. The settings shown there should work now the LNB has been set to Universal.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding this, but that reads to me as a search for channels on a single satellite. I'm stuck with only the Satellite MBC, so I cant search Astra.

MBC is just a name, as you are only connected to a single fixed dish it doesn't matter what it's called. The name will be able to be edited somewhere in the menus, or add another satellite and call it Astra 2.

You'll have fathomed by now that I'm way out of my depth!! This is now a tomorrow-job.

So the really daft-laddie question: where do I point the dish? (it's on a caravan and can be pointed anywhere.)

First get it working on the dish you mentioned in your first post. Then you can either take the television and receiver to the dish and view the signal quality meter while adjusting the dish, or use a sat-beeper type meter. The manuals linked to in this thread give a basic idea where to point the dish to begin with.

Is there a system reset or factory reset in the system setup menu?

Thanks, ozumo, yes I'm familiar with setting up reception - I've had an SD receiver for 15 years on my caravan. I was just asking if I should be looking at 28 degs E.

Statalite, there is a factory reset option (at least on paper, not sure if it does in reality). I had been wondering about that. Nothing to loose by trying it?

I would do a factory reset, select the 28.2 or astra 2 satellite and setup the dish.
Ideally you would have the dish aligned before you use the receiver.

Result!

Thanks all, but particularly ozumo, for your patience, understanding, knowledge and help. I went down the route: set up the dish/Single Satellite Search.
