Just bought myself some more 7W LED bulbs (60W equivalent) for the bargain price of £2.50 each! Osram ones in B&Q are a tenner each and burn 10W, win win on my part! [emoji1]

But that means your central heating will have to work harder to make up for the lack of heat coming from the lamps. So your heating bills will go up a bit this winter* ;)

(*assuming you're in the UK or other northern hemisphere country)

I'm fun at parties.

On the other hand the reduced temperature will be compensated for by your body burning fat to naturally maintain your body temperature, so you lose weight without dieting:-bighappy

My experience with LED bulbs is that they consume more than it says on the tin (with *my* bulbs something like 50% more) :)

So do you think its like LNB noise figures then? In saying that 50% more is ridiculously inaccurate. I've had the brand of LED bulbs in my house since me & the missus moved in October of last year I'm very happy with the difference I can see in consumption between these & the old school traditional 60W bulbs that were there. I find these LED bulbs to have a better spectrum of light than those bloody normal fluorescent bulbs that we all are familiar with these days, the mad "Grey" light they give off is horrible & dull looking to me.

I am amazed how much money people waste. My young neighbour said he had to put the heating on because its a bit chilly when they wake up. When I said I don't have the heating on in my bedroom at any time they accused me of being tight. I said as a child we had ice on the windows in the bedrooms and wore more clothes during the day because there was only a coal fire in one room. I think people have gone soft, get a hot woman and save on the heating.

..an interesting thread ...mainly cos I use 12 x 12v 20W halogens in my playroom ..and was considering changing to led bulbs in the future ..
Is there a chart available for direct conversion ...
The watts > lumens appears to vary depending on which site you visit ..
These are what I currently use ..

I'd take all manufacturers figures with the same large grain of salt with which vehicle emission figures should be taken :)

Don't do yourself down. We all have a value in another persons eyes. its not the body or the money but the personality. As for me, never was good looking, blind from birth in one eye and no way am I hot stuff since a surprise major anaerobic aneurysm last year.

I got mine from Amazon for the bathroom, kitchen and my den. Various ones, some work of a 12 volt coiled transformer, some need the mains to low voltage dc adaptor. last a long time and nowhere the heat.

I tried halogen versions of traditional bulbs in my previous home & although I liked the garment of light they gave off I wasn't that impressed with them as a energy saving product as such.

You guys need to look at LED Filament bulbs, they look like traditional filament bulbs, but use the latest innovation in LED technology, 1 Watt LED Filaments, which makes it easy to work out the power use, 4 filaments is 4 Watts, 8 is 8 Watts, etc.... :D

I said as a child we had ice on the windows in the bedrooms and wore more clothes during the day because there was only a coal fire in one room.
My parents tell the same story. Ice on the inside of the bedroom windows and no money for extra bed covers, so they had to use old curtains.

Worn sash windows with gaps all round didn't help either.

My mother used to tell the story of when, during the war, she stayed overnight in London and when she woke up the next morning the glass of water on the bedside table had frozen solid.

I have some back lighting LED strips that I took out of some dead HDTV's, I powered them up and ran for the sunglasses, they lit up the whole house, (64 LED's on one strip) running two of them on 12 volts DC is blinding, but three in series at about 14 volts is comfortable to look at without welding goggles on.

As back lighting for an HDTV these run 16 LED's in series in groups of four at 100 volts DC per group, the combined light will light up a large back yard with a brilliant white light, bright enough for a book reading club party.

They get quite warm so you have to leave them on the large flat aluminum plate that acts as a heat sink, this is why some don't need the heat on in the TV room, a 55 inch LED HDTV will keep it quite warm enough.

And you guys want to talk about cold houses, the cave I grew up in had problems when the snow piled up against the walls, even with storm windows on you still needed to sleep with the largest Dog you could find as my older Brothers always swiped the blankets, the coldest winter I remember was -70 below zero F, (-56 C to you all) and that was without the wind blowing, you had to boil some water just to flush the toilet.

The bad thing was you had to walk 5 miles to School, up hill in the snow both ways, the Earth was a lot warmer just before the last ice Age, so you didn't have to worry as much about the cold.

And the best way to tell how many watts your device is using and calculating the cost to run it is with one of these hummers.

Code:
http://www.amazon.com/P3-P4400-Electricity-Usage-Monitor/dp/B00009MDBU

Or this one for you UK guys.

Code:
http://www.prodigit.com.tw/product_c_3.php?button_num=g10&this_cname=&folder_id=31&cnt_id=15&orderby=2

You can measure the wattage or Kilowatts per hour, you can then calculate the cost by looking at your electric bill, see how much they are charging per KWH and multiply.

You take a single bulb lamp, plug it into this device, turn it on set a timer for one hour and your set, you can do this for almost any device.

I never needed such a flimsy excuse.
