Advice Needed ERICSSON RX8200

Can one of this boards be purchased. Is this like a PCI card which slots into the Rx8200?

It looks like a return to sender now. Was good though and expirence of having the big loud beast.
 
1922 board for sale on ebay, your still going to need the mpeg2/4 4::2:2 board also.

do the rx8200's then detect the new hardware without any additional updates?

Yes, the unit should auto detect the new board.

I bought some RX8200 recently from the same seller and checked their specs out when collecting. The seller had setup a demo with a TV, PC and demodulator to test the various video format options and licensing specs.

It turned out one of them was an NDS model without biss and without 4:2:2 so the seller went off to his stash vault and came back with another unit that had the biss option but no 4:2:2. He then went back to the stash vault and came back with a 4:2:2 board and put it in the box, changed the video format of the demo to 4:2:2 and all working OK.

Weighed him in with green folding, loaded up the car and left, job done.
 
How much is one of these boards and are they easy to install

The boards are easy to install, just remove the case cover and plug them into the relevant slots.
Not so easy is sourcing the boards, there seem to be no 4:2:2 boards for sale as spares apart from extremely over the top priced ones.

Probably the best option is to look for an old bitched up Tandberg RX8200 that has a 4:2:2 board in it, buy the unit, strip the board out and transplant it into the working RX8200.
 
I would keep attention regarding the licenses issue.
It is absolutely not sure that, after installing the right hardware, the proper licenses are active too, and probably finding license keys is more difficult than finding hardware spare parts.
If anyone is interested, I have a pristine, perfectly working RX8200 for sale.
It is very well licensed including 422 and BISS/Common Interface decryption.
It is for sale in the right forum section.
Obviously it can't be a gift.

the menus are showing enabled licenses now.

Upgrading the licenses seems to be OK for the O/P. He managed to get them upgraded to a very high specification. His problem is that he does not have the two boards he needs for biss and 4:2:2.

How can you upgrade licenses without installing the proper hardware?
Every license is just software-based, obviously, but I did not know that the main software can activate a license without having the corresponding hardware installed.
 
Could you please clarify the difference in performance between using version 4.2.2 with a DVB Dream and an Rx8200? My primary concern with the DVB setup is the poor picture quality on my PC, despite having upgraded graphics and an i7 processor. The image quality is noticeably inferior to that of the receiver running version 4.2.0.

You have time to search the needed boards, but if you don't find them.... well, it could be a not so useful box.
But obviously it's up to you.

As Moonbase says.

I need 2 boards which would cost around 300 to 500 unless I find a cheaper

I will give it a few more days of hunting around.

I've also heard there is another modulator which has an HDMI built in and can also handle UHD 4.2.2. Ill find the same.

You can't compare the RX8200 with the hardware you mentioned and with ANY consumer solution.
The RX8200 (and every professional receivers) has broadcast-grade video and audio quality, very very far from any consumer box and/or PC video card.
I recently made a specific test to be sure about this point.
I tried to compare video quality from a feed received with a professional box and with my AppleTV connected to a Vu+ receiver.
NO WAY! ABSOLUTELY!! Watching the AppleTV the video quality was surely good, but switching to the other source it became fantastic.

WOW!
Now that's sounds even more tempting

Is the Rx8200 the best thing out there for 4.2.2 or is the a better beast out there to get. I love to find something with the HDMI built in.

But, as I mentioned, you can't compare it with a professional receiver.
Also, keep in mind that the RX8200 has a better video quality also with 420 feeds due to its very high performance FPGA-based video decoder.
And do not forget the audio section! You can decode four audio pids simultaneously having 8 independent balanced audio outs that can be configured as 4 stereo pairs or 8 single mono outs, in addition to 4 AES/EBU outs that can be easily converted to SPDIF and connected to any audio or home theater amplifier to obtain a super sound. Tested.
