Eumetsat access licences now free

So ...I now have my sofware disc ..and usb dongle ..
I have installed TBS-IPDATA..
I have the TBS 5927 connected..
Ged has installed an 80cm dish pointing at 10E ..
I have a transponder locked 11263H,33000
So I guess I'm sort of ready ..
I just attempted to install the EUMETcast Client ..
and staightaway I'm asked for a user name and password ..
according to the associated pdf this is supplied by eumetsat ?
I see nothing in the envelope with these details ...so I'm confused ..
I just assumed ...obviously wrongly that the provided key/dongle would take care of this ??????
has anyone set the system up yet and can advise ?

I hope to be up & running in the next few days VS. And no doubt then the head scratching starts!

EDIT - just a thought - the user & p/w might be the one you use to access the Eumecast site??

Well ...I've waited this long so one more night wont hurt.
I'll await Pamelas reply before I proceed.
I'll let you know what she says..

I have just received my user/pass for the software/dongle via email and they are different than my login details.
My dongle etc is due to arrive tomorrow.

AH thats interesting - I'll have to scan back through my emails. Things have been a bit hectic recently so I dont always fully take in complicated stuff in emails :D

Yes indeed ..apparently sent when the key was dispatched..

Debbie kindly sent it to me again this morning..
The relevant email should start...

I am pleased to inform you that your EUMETCast Client Software and EUMETCast Key Unit will be dispatched to you today, via courier.

Well, had a quick go at this tonight, and I have managed to download some Data, they all seem to be .nc files. Does this sound right? If so, what program do we open them with?

Haha yes indeed what programme, I have given up with it for now, so much data coming in so quickly. Please try satsignals Metop Manager and let me know how you get on, as I am getting nowhere with it - you can download a 30 day trial here Metop Manager - from David Taylor, Edinburgh

Got a TBS6903 card, Just ordered a 110cm Dish today and Coaxial as the one to my old Sky dish is 20 years old. And was luckily enough to pick up a cheap Stab HH120 motor, so I can scan the satellites if I wish to do so. Got the license in January. So I am all set hopefully. Next week I am off work for a week. So i have time to mount and setup the system. Have to think on getting a bigger hard drive as I assume it will be filled up quickly.

Yeah, found that from another forum post. I managed to get 3 or so B&W images to display, but you need other software to add coastline/country lines and colour etc.
Hopefully will have more time over the weekend to play with it, only been at it for a couple of hours.

I see that Metop Manager is £50 !!!!!

Oh yes ? How ?!

Just checked and I used the 'MSG data manager' software. It is supposed to do a few of the different sources, but I only get the pictures from the 'world' southern hemisphere ones.

Metop gave me nothing.....

Also. I've got nothing decoded from the 'basic service', only those images from the 'high volume service'.

Thanks @Analoguesat for the tips. I have it running and filling up the HD (i5, 128G SSD, 3T HD, 16G RAM, TBS6903). However, I get a number of licence errors, presumably as those are the ones missed from the original request as per the instructions here. It looks like the .ini files need to exclude the unlicensed channels. As for getting anything useful, I haven't yet. I have David Taylor's HRPT suite but need to set it all up (Keplers etc). Does anyone know of a dummy's guide to the whole process and set-up? As usual the info is spread around many sites & fora.

These are the links that helped me:
Reducing packet loss

The licence errors, incomplete files and other download errors were almost eliminated by moving exclusively to an SSD. It seems that the PC has to be highly tweaked (especially on W7):
Use a RAMdisk for incoming data then move it to another drive and delete old data
Set all the file locations to the most appropriate drive
Only download things that you really want (modify .ini files)
Stop unwanted services (there's the list in the installation files and others on Satsignal)
Process files on another PC

It's a long way from plug & play. The tweaking appears to involve a lot of work on the .ini files.
Has anyone found recv.ini?
