I wonder if Timo has seen the snow shield over that LNB in the second picture down the page of the above web page!

Yes! I've been tempted to try one but was worried they looked a bit too flimsy for the dish I had in mind if the snow was to build up over long unattended periods.

Your "bottle"type must be quite rigid really, bet it would take some weight before it distorted.

Yeah except I think it needs those thin 23mm feed horns to work well. The dish in Lapland has a big Black Ultra on it. I'm going to try one of the LNB covers from one of the site sponsers first to keep light snow off (larger amounts can be manually knocked off without fear of crushing anything).

It'll be interesting to see how good they are, those from RED APPLE keep the rain of the face of the black ultra so thats something.

Perhaps when the freeze up starts you could clean the snow and summer muck off whatever you get.

Then rub on some -65C car screen wash concentrate which you can get anywhere there, you can get it in Halfords here. That sticks quite well to the car windows so it should stick well to plastic. Ice will not form on it. Snow will slide off easily. You would have to renew it from time to time but I can't think of anything else that would work there with the overnight low temperatures.

The LNB shield shown on that website and for sale here was iirc designed in Norway.

That website is one of best I've found for local sat stuff in Finland if you can live with the prices...

The dishes in question are left to fend for themselves for most of the winter where it can get up to a metre of natural snow, it's just me that uses them mainly for a few weeks a year. Thanks for the windscreen wash tip, might try that on some dishes in Helsinki.
