Comment to previous page conversation about interlace/deinterlace and 25 vs 50 frames - I have watched all the shows on TV (ESC ROW channel; about 12 - 15 Mbit/s 4:2:0 video) and on PC using VLC as video decoder (Philippa 1A; 35 MBit/s 4:2:2 video) and i haven't noticed any of these artefacts regardless of content. Picture is smooth, clear and homogeneous during all the shows from beginning to the end. However, described artefacts can be seen on the broadcasts on regular TV-channels that mediate the ESC shows.

There are couple of HD channels on satellites, e. g. Hotbird, which are using 25p HD video. SD channel MTV3 in Finnish terrestrial network also is 720x576 25p in MPEG2; other SD channels are 50i.

Not sure why they have added a 3rd presenter just for the finals, Im finding her the weakest link out of the 3 of them so far during todays rehearsals.

You are right, Hotbird shows all kinds of rare signals, I love it. Hotbird serves west and east, different worlds.
But in professional video production in western Europe we use EBU and other standards, to prevent conflicts with other broadcasters.

Using 25p instead of 25psf gives you no benefit at all, the needed b/w is the same.
The STB will simply convert it to 50p or 50i so the display will be able to show it.
 
For final voting EBU is using higher band frequencies.
