It's crazy that it takes 8-9 months from launch to broadcast now. In 1989 it took 6 weeks. This advance in technology and efficiency is really remarkable.

Eute 10B has electric thruster not chemical ones - the power they produce is much less than chemical thrusters so the time to kill the orbital velocities to circularise the orbit & get it geostationary is longer - months instead of weeks. It may seem a backwards step but the ion thrusters are more efficient so in the long term it will stay in service longer.

What normally takes tv satellites out of service & end of life is the station keeping thrusters running out of propellant.

More efficient thrusters = longer service life = more money earned for Eutelsat.

Eutelsat dont care that its taken months to get onto orbit - its all factored in their long term plans.

Does anyone else get the impression that 10B is now in service?

Not sure, just done a quick scan and things do look very slightly stronger, but not too many services left on 10E to compare these days!

I am mainly observing the stability of the signals and ... somehow I feel this is not an inclined bird.
And yes, some additional strength can also be determined.
On the other hand, EUMETSat informs the transition to happen on the night between 20th & 21st.
Let's see...

Did you manage to receive the telemetry or beacon from the 1.6E?

I just checked, and it's still in its testing position... it hasn't started moving yet. Most likely before starting to move, the telemetry signals will switch to circular polarity (they are currently still in linear polarity).

Today it turned off the telemetry signals on the frequencies 11698,60 H and 11699,20 V, and activated the frequencies 11702,20 and 11703,40 in circular plarity (RHCP).

This information is automatic so will need to be corrected manually when 10B reaches 10°east as it will show the satellite moving past here when it is sataionary.
