The Italian channels will remain at 5 west ... good months from now (probably more than two years), that's clear, 100%.
Some time ago I said that the only solution would be, that, the EUTELSAT QUANTUM satellite (recall that, for this type of satellite the spots are flexible, more clearly, in the meaning of anyone, the spot can be fixed even by the owners of the TV channels, they can fix the spot where they think it is best), it will be launched at 5 west, instead of 12.5 west and this will solve the problem of the lack of transposition for the Italian channels.
Probably the variant of the location of an older satellite, additionally, to increase the number of transponders to 5 west ... is not economically viable, for Eutelsat! ... or, is not liked by those who rent transponders from Eutelsat!
Probably, the Italians will withdraw the TV channels from 9 degrees east and they will remain (as originally planned in the plan), at 5 degrees west ... this variant seems to me the most viable, relating everything to the real situation.

But under your scenario, how will they maintain the current loading across 5WA and 5WB for "probably more than two years", given that one satellite is about to become "beyond-tolerable-wobble" and the other is already at full electrical capacity. Presumably the launch of your Quantum satellite is months off....?

Quantum is optimised for data & governmental comms services. Its not a tv bird. Also its already been heavily booked by data providers which will have been contracted at a specific orbital slot.

.

QED - Quantum will not be replacing 5WA, all the data contracts would have to be renegotiated, PLUS all the frequency clearances would need to be redone for a different slot.

We are now hypothetically discussing and considering different hypotheses, so far there are two:

1-new satellite is launched to orbital position 5 west, to be replaced E5WA ...

The 2-satellite E5WA is replaced by an older satellite, from the Eutelsat fleet ...

So far both hypotheses are not plausible ... because there is no movement in this regard, from Eutelsat !!!

That means they know that the old E5WA satellite can work well ... but how long ?!

They probably figured that out.

What we know is that from now on, many months ... the Italians remain at 5 west ...

No human can work out what happens out in space, even in the geostationary slot.

It is all probability, maximising profit based on estimated operational life against losses through human/alien intervention.

Marketing/ensuring sales/promising continued revenue and a 'guaranteed' back up if/when everything goes belly up.

More than likely at 8.0 West.In fact, some African TV programs that are now broadcast to this position were initially at 5.0 W.

Hi again! Final report from my side...I managed to find a second hand 1,2 M Channel Master for an acceptable price. Below you can see the results. TP's signals are between 11,7 and 12,3 dB. LNB Inverto Premium Universal single and Philips TV integrated tuner, measurements done around 11:00 with clear weather. I must say I'm quite happy with the results :-) I believe this will enough to keep an acceptable signal independent of bad weather or seasonal variations. A Channel Master is maybe overkill for such a basic use so I might go for a motorized setup if I find it for an OK price! Bring it on if you have questions!

Alejandro, I wanted to make a comparison, from the perspective of the results obtained by you, but I do not know your location ... I understood that the antenna is 120 cm ...
First, the broadcast power on the W5WB satellite is different ... so, from 12-14 noon, until 20-22 in the evening, the power (signal quality) is high ... then, the power (signal quality) ) expires ...
I think, the quality of the signal obtained by you is low and probably at night, especially if there is no clear time, you can not see anything ...
The only transponder that is in trouble is 12543 h 34200 8/9 ... that was with problems from the beginning, now, they have fixed something else, but in the mean time the fool (sky, rain), can no longer be received.
So, the true quality of the W5WB satellite is the signal quality on the above frequency.
Depending on your location (because I do not know) and depending on the weather (it would be good for both, the weather would be the same), let's do a test (only on the frequency 12543 h 34200 8/9), to say Friday, April 17, at 13 and 23 hours uk, Saturday, April 18, at 13 hours 23 uk and on Sunday, April 19, at 13 and 23 uk ... then compare the signals obtained ...
My antenna was a few years 130 cm (fixed, circular), then, due to the decrease of the signal, I replaced it with a 150 cm antenna, in order to be able to receive the French and Italian channels at any time, regardless of the time outside.

Hi Marshall! I'm located in Oslo, Norway, way out of the reception area. I do not have a multistream receiver so I have not checked those TP (I did check 12700H thought but I get nothing) and I assume that my sat meter cannot get any quality signal for those multistream transponders either? For the mentionned transponders, which are the ones used by Fransat, the quality is good. The weather has been nice since I installed the antenna so I can't tell yet how stable the signal in rainy condition is but I'm quite confident considering the levels that I have now. I will let you know.

I looked now on the map of the spot Transalpine, your location, Oslo, is approximately similar to mine, Craiova, Romania, looking at the lines that show the signal ... now I will test the frequencies tested by you before ... more chosen as the sky is clear, just as it was when you tested it.

11554 v ... Oslo (70/49) ... Craiova (89/100)
11471 v ... Oslo (69/50) ... Craiova (89/92)
11096 v ... Oslo (68/50) ... Craiova (90/100)

Here are the other frequencies, with problems:

12543 h ... 86/84
11675 h ... 88/77
12585 h ... 86/77
12669 h ... 86/74

Sometimes, when it rains torrentially, these frequencies are no longer seen.
So, although the antenna is large, it is not enough on rainy brakes ... and if it is just an interesting show, it is enough to ruin your day or evening, when you would like to see it ...
I no longer have time to post pictures, to us, the Orthodox Christian worship ... Sunday, April 19th is Easter, the biggest Christian holiday ... the preparations are in all of us.

Greetings from Craiova

Hi again! It's difficult to relate to percentages instead of absolute values...if you had taken the values from my TV (shown in the pictures), then strengths would have been 90% and quality 93/84/79% which gives a quite different results. That is why I prefer to use values in dB. What I know is that before I changed to the Channel Master 120, I had a 105 cm and was able to keep the strongest transponder even in rainy weather. Since my new values are stronger than the highest value I had before, I'm confident that I will keep the signal for those transponders. When it comes to the multistream, I agree with you, the lock value is very high (I believe 10,7 d:cool: so those would probably be lost with bad weather. Happy easter to you

Let's not forget one thing that's favored for a better reception lately, which is that for a few weeks the weather has been fine all over our continent.
Or,it is known that the signal level increases or decreases depending on the conditions/weather of transmission to uplink and downlink.
Therefore, I can say that now is one of the best times for satellite reception.Of course this does not mean that the received signal does not depend on our reception equipment.

One question: not that the channels are very relevant for me, but are you guys able to receive 12700 H 11167? I get absolutely nothing here even if it's supposed to be in the Transalpine beam where I get the other TP's and that is not supposed to be a multistream...thanks!
