Grazie anto@,but you are right in the center of the spot,I'm interested in finding out if those who are outside the Italian footprint.

They will need to find a few thousand dish installers in Italy & France if they move transponders from 5 west to 9 east this is a very long shot & who will foot the bill ?

5 west options as Eutelsat 5 West B has failed due to a damaged solar panel,

Option 1 Eutelsat 7C starts @ 7 east this allows Eutelsat 7A to move to 5 west,

Option 2 Eutelsat 13E moves to 5 west Eutelsat 7A moves to 13 east for extra back up as 13E only has 3 active transponders & 4 years of life in geostationary orbit with 38 available transponders,

Option 3 Eutelsat leases an empty satellite from this list FlySat Sat List for emergency cover.

In the meantime Eutelsat finance & give the go ahead for the construction of 5 West C.

It certainly makes sense for the Italian multistreams to go over from 5°W to the Italian spotbeam on 9°E, even though it’ll be sad to no longer receive them (I wonder why they never established there to start with!). They’re not aimed at the public anyway, so the only dish realignments that they care about will be at digital terrestrial transmitters across Italy. I wonder if Eutelsat is going to be footing that bill for Mediaset etc!

Is there any spare room on the European beam of 8°W? That was always used as a back-up in the analogue days at French terrestrial transmitters (remember Canal+ Analogique being on both 5°W and 8°W!) so if there is no other solution then the French multistreams could potentially end up there! The only problem ones will be the commercial Fransat/SFR services aimed at the public which moving would affect. But that’s much fewer transponders to deal with supplying from 5°W if they can move other stuff elsewhere.

Here's the reception in Thessaloniki with my 1.30 dish.
The signals are dissapointingly low, but somehow that's to be expected. I'm slightly outside the official footprint and additionally, there were specs of signals from the Nordic beam which even though were below lock, they are enough to make damage.
Here's what OSmio4K scanned

And here are the signals from the Satfinder.

For sake of comparison, here's how 12341V fares which has no interference from the Nordic beam

Overall, I still receive everything which is important. I wonder where RAI will end up though and how low the signal should be, are there available TPs for that anyway?
It's also important to note that there's a big possibility these signals to be higher in a little smaller dishes, where the Nordic beam should not reach.

Reception of the Italian beam would be impossible in Sweden since the same frequencies and polarisation are used on the Nordic/Eastern beam.

Launches July 2020.E5WB_Predicted_Ku-band_Transalpine_Downlink.jpg
Using a software-based design, EUTELSAT QUANTUM will be the first universal satellite to repeatedly adjust to business requirements and operate in any geographic region in the world.

So Eutelsat Quantum can duplicate any footprint even the Eutelsat 5 West B_Predicted_Ku-band_Transalpine beam

They just have to make sure that they launch Quantum without damaging it

The Eutelsat 5 West B is moving to west, now it is located at almost 3°W. Only telemetry 11198.80 LHCP is active.

Yes, the TLE at 1.5°E is 3 days old, travel must have been at least 1.5°/day, so at 5°W on Wednesday. Could be ascending to graveyard orbit as well. <_<

Several transponders were activated during the tests ... I don't think it's completely unusable. :confused

Re: l'avenir d'Eutelsat 5W

Messagepar krystof » 13 Jan 2020 21:56

Re: the future of Eutelsat 5W

The swan fields for 5WA, its north / south substation control has been off since December. So its orbit will gradually tilt to leave room for 5WB, no impact on receptions for the general public, but it is starting to be visible on large diameter dishes (240 mini).

Despite the problem of deploying the 5WB south solar panel, it will be able to provide a certain number of services on a long-term basis (this does not therefore mean all), for the moment this partial migration is planned for the night of 20 to 21 January 2020 , will follow some adjustments (EIRP, reference plane, ...), in the long term foresee a polarization difference compared to 5WA of ~ 3.5 ° (in principle invisible on parabolas for the general public whose counter-polar is correctly adjusted) .

Eutelsat 5West B is alive,
A new plan will be required to support 5 west as Eutelsat 5West B cannot cover all transponders so a back up satellite may be needed here @ 5 west @ 5 west to work with the damaged 5West B.

So some Italian services may move to 9 east so that all French services can operate on the New 5 West B (On reduced capacity due to solar panel damage)
