My Satellite Setup
4 X 1.8 m dishes, C & Ku Band (5W, 64E, 68.5E, 72.5E, 78E)
My Location
Northern Tanzania (Kilimanjaro), East Africa
I live in northern part of Tanzania at the foot of mount Kilimanjaro (see black spot on the pic below). Attached is the W2 downlink for Madagscar etc...

Is it possible that I get Eutelsat W2 at 16E (Parabole Ocean Indien, CanalSat Reunion as its beam reach central Tanzania) and Nilesat as well?

I have 4 X 1.8 m dishes and I use them to get C/Ku bands such as Atlantic Bird 3; NSS7; Thaicom 2/3; Pas4/7/10 and Intelsat 906 as I do not get Hotbird or Astra. Maybe it is possible, who knows!

What is LNB Skew? When must you configure it?

Asante sana (Thank you very much)

We dont have many member in Tanzania... so exact information is going to be scarce. However, that 38db power line equals roughly a 1.5m dish.

In the absence of exact info I think you are going to just have to try it and see what happens.:p

Dont forget to report back your findings :D.

Well i also cannot help how the reception conditions in Tanzania are but just for information:
In Lubumbashi (DRC) a 1.80m is required to get the Madagascar beam of W2. No wonder since it's a little outside the footprint.

No embassy or hotel nearby with a large dish where you could ask for that ?

Thanks Deepbluesky; this is helpful! :)

Pleople here have other priority (CNN/BBC or local tvs) than watching french speaking channels; same applies to hotels.

You're welcome :)

I would appreciate it a lot if you could let us know more about the sat scene in Tanzania.

Theoretically depending on the location 50W-120E are above the horizon. Of course the receivable satellites are much less since their coverage does not favour Tanzania.

Here we have some positions that may be received with bigger C-Band dishes:

For example it would be of interest, if anybody receives the Asiasats at 100.5E and 105.5E or the Insats at 83E and 93.5E. Thaicom 2+3 may also be of interest. I will list a few more positions that might be viewed: 76.5E/75E/72E/68.5E/64E/62E/57E/49E/32.9E/30.5E/26.2E/1W/5W/8W/11W/22W/27.5W/31.5W/34.5W/37.5W/50W

For Ku-Band reception, mostly also bigger dishes recommended, the next listed are worth to try:

68.5E South Africa beam
45E South Africa beam
36E Central Africa beam
33E Kenya beam
16E Madagascar beam
7E Africa beam
22W South Africa beam

With very large dishes (>5m) may be the reception of more is possible.
So if you know more please let us know.

Greetings from rainy and extremely cool Southwestern Germany (3-10C).

Earth......... I hope!
Nice list for us in Africa to try out. I have tried some of them. But I did that when I had only a 90cm dish and have not done so with 1.8m dish. Will do that and see.
C-band coverage is quiet rich. The last one I tried was LM 1. and it was ok. So that no doubt will do. W2 is ok right at the edge of of the coverage with 90cm dish.

It is not the right thread but i know some C-band amateurs in Africa are frequently here.
Do you know what happen with the French feeds on Atlantic Bird 3 C-band? There is no picture on the supposed fta channels since two days now although scrambled ones are working fine.

Thanks for this information falasha,
Just to mention I cannot receive intelsat 904 60E, and what transponder is receivable in Nairobi.
please let me know some frequencies on the same, even mostly for radio if available
