F1 for free in 2012

For those that can receive Nilesat 7W,Ad sports 1 or 2 showed F1 last year. Might be on Arabsat/Badr 26E too. And its worth checking on Turksat also.

2[SUP]nd[/SUP] week-end with RTL.
I must say that this little investment is working out very well.
Watched Australian practice three high lights [RTL] to Radio 5 commentary which were recorded.
Then the Qualifying, managed to get the picture and the commentary to within 1 sec sync.
The race on Sunday was great, although at times commentary was different to what was on the screen,
but only a minor problem.
Total time for adverts was 10 minutes for the whole race and three of those were during the safety car.
[had the benefit of listening to the commentary while adverts were on]

Then in the afternoon watched and recorded BBC’s version, although knowing the result was still enjoyable.

Covered the Malaysian qualifying, which worked out fine and if the race picture and commentary is as good as the Australian GP,
then I shall be more than happy with this arrangement.

Saved a lot of money not investing in Sky…………

Thanks to RTL, just like the old ITV days.

Good man ............... at least you get a small picture-in-picture of the live action even while the ads are on.

Australia was too early in the morning so I'll be having a look at both RAI & TF1 tomorrow at some point during the race. :)

Can't do Rai as yet owing to lack of TivùSat Card, but TF1 is tuned in and ready to go.

Watching Quali this morning on RTL, it was very noticeable that an awful lot of jargon/techie phrases have no strict German language translation, so the Commentary was actually quite informative even to a non-German speaker like moi.

But I can cope better with French, so thanks for the reminder about TF1.

Just about to settle down for the race on RTL. The usual pre race waffle with Niki Lauda and Florian König. Niki obviously needs a session with Eddie Jordans shirt maker (plain blue Saturday and pink today). At least their pit reporter made an effort (flowery monochrome print shirt) though it seemed strange to be interviewing David Haye next to the McLaren garage about whether he was going to fight Klitschko.

Just switched on RTL and it appears to be wettish. What fun.

Now watching TF1 ............. I am getting more benefit from the "yak, yak, yak".

Not seen any Advert breaks in their coverage yet, but time will tell!

Edit: Spoke too soon. Anyone for a new Citroen DS4?

Who the hell thought up the idea to have a race in the middle of the monsoon season?

Bernie…… I suspect……

Couldn't organise a rabbit run in a lettuce field…….. Springs to mind.

:)

Tivusat observations:

There are occasional short advert breaks. Not too intrusive though.

The race started on RAI1 then moved to RAI2 during the red flag so RAI1 could carry a religious service.

RAI is a few seconds ahead of RTL.

I did wonder about the race date myself. However, Malaysia has two monsoon seasons, May to September and November to March. I don't know if it's possible to delay it's 'slot' but I can see it would be difficult to fit it in the 'dry' season. Probably it would be best to swap it with China.........doesn't alter what you said about Bernie though...

For GP2 fans Ive just caught the end of a rerun on the fta RAI Sport 2 :)

Note to self - change the 7020 cam from cccam to scam BEFORE the race starts! The entitlements expired during the race and the screen went black!

Well contrary to expectations, Free Practice does not seem to be carried on Sport 1 Deutschland.

Anybody know of any Channel that does carry it on non-BBC meets?

(By Satellite, not Web Streams)

Apparently RTL on 19.2°E are covering Saturday morning free practice (see photo) but nothing on Friday. (Don't forget the time shown on my tv is CET)

I've just checked on Wikipedia as well. Raised my hopes when I saw that Abu Dhabi Sports 2 were covering all free practices FTA then I was crushed to realise they transmitted on either Nilesat 201 or Badr6......

Thanks for that - one Session down and two to go.

Excellent find :) However, be aware coverage of FP3 is in highlights form and delayed but that is still better than nothing at all.

All this takes me back to the early days of when I had 19.2E (only 11 or so years ago!) and used to watch the Free Practice coverage on ARD/ZDF or even DSF sometimes. FP3 has always been on RTL in delayed highlights form for years and they even used to show the morning warm-up when F1 had it a few years ago.

Unfortunately it seems it is Radio 5 Live or watching on-line tomorrow
