Many F1 fans have been devastated by the deal the BBC have done to share the F1 coverage with Sky. This thread isnt the place to discuss the rights and wrongs of that decision. The deal has been done, and we have to make the best of the situation. Any posts bitching about the F1 going to Sky UK will be removed

In these finacially challenging times its hard to justify the ~40 quid a month Sky UK subscription fee for the Sky Sports coverage. However with a bit of forward planning the F1 coverage is still available via foreign channels - for free or for one off payments rather than the ~40 quid a month you would need to pay Sky UK..

One of the easiest versions is German channel RTL on 19E. Its transmitted free so is available on almost any digital receiver.
RTL HD is also available on 19E, but isnt free - you will require a German HD+ cam and a suitable receiver that has a CI+ cam slot in it - not a normal CI cam slot. The current cost from a UK dealer is about £100 for one year's access.

TF1 France also carries it. Currently available as TF1 Suisse on 9E. The easiest way to get TF1 in SD is to get either a Fransat card &/or receiver with a dish aimed at 5W, or a TNTSat card / or receiver with the dish pointed at 19E. Various of our forum advertisers can supply either Fransat or TNTSat receivers and cards, and these are one off payments - no further subscriptions are required. If you have relatives in France then get them to buy the equipment and ship it over or both sets of kit are available in the bigger French superstores if you are on holiday.

RAI Uno from Italy is also available. This requires a Tivusat card &cam or card & receiver - cost in Italy is approximately €90, but you need an Italian fiscal code. Equipment is available from UK dealers for about around £200. Tivusat is also a one off payment.

Of course these channels have the problem of foreign commentary tracks, but you can listen to the radio commentary on Radio 5Live. It'll be a bit out of synch, but I can put up with that if it saves me 40 quid a month!

Discussion of any illegal decryption methods for the F1 channels is not permitted.

As yet, we don't know what the full range of possibilities will be for viewing Practice Sessions.

We've had them on BBC Red Button and I hope that will continue, but don't actually know.

In previous years, other German Channels on 19.2E have carried them.

So as we get to grips with the new regime, please post any "finds" here.

And

Don't forget to join our Satellites.co.uk Fantasy League. It's a great bit of fun - despite nobody ever getting around to giving me my Runner-Up badge for 2011 ............

If anyone is interested in one of these solutions and need a dish putting up then we encourage you to use one of our installer members. We have members up and down the country who will install dishes.

If you would like to see if someone can help you post a new thread in this section

Installer Wanted

stating what you want - and the nearest town to you - in the thread title.

Oops - yup you are correct. Ive looked at the two entries and combined them! :D

Entry corrected. :D

I'll cough to that one as it may have been influenced by PM discussion before the Thread went live.

Looks like you're right 12034 carries M6HD, M6 SD, TF1 SD plus a few others.

Or you could get one of these _http://www.sportsyncradio.com/ or use the equivelant PC app.

I am led to believe that

Sports 1 Deutschland

19.2E

12480 V 27500 2/3

Will carry coverage of Practice 1 and Practice 2.

Sky Sports F1 channel launches on channel 408 on the 9th March 2012

Thanks for the launch info ............... but it ain't FREE, though, is it!

Thanks for the info about TF1 Suisse - never realised it was on 9E :) Any idea how long it is likely to remain FTA for though?

Nope.

Probably until Bernie gets wind of how we are all going about depriving him of his cut!

When this first started and he realised folk could use Radio 5 Live as time-shifted English Commentary for RTL etc, he did comment that he'd see what could be done about that. And I don't think he was proposing to insert a two or three second Audio sync delay to allow Telly to catch up!!

PS: I'd better not mention we're coming to York on Saturday to take our daughter out to lunch or you'll be having me up that ladder of yours ...............

Hopefully, until December 2012 ;) Ah yes, I remember Bernie saying that. Wonder what he was thinking about then :( As some have said, I think F1 on Sky will be a usual case of a massive fanfare at the start to draw viewers in then, over time, they'll give it less and less coverage and eventually drive it back to being a minority sport again - shame on the BBC :(

:D Naah, I'm gonna make do with it as it is for now - USALS works fine, its just a shame about DiSECQ 1.2! I'm hoping to have a new toy to play with soon though, a Tevii S464 PC satellite card, in addition to my TBS - the TBS is a great card but it lacks the ability to receive very low (and indeed very high!) SR transmissions, so will be busy playing with that soon :)

Vizion Plus

16E

11283 V 27500 5/6

I haven't been able to find a programme guide yet so I don't know whether they show practice and qualifying, but they should be showing the races.

Ive cancelled Sky just last weekend, but then also decided to blow a tenner on getting HD for my last month, just to see if the F1 channel stays really good. Its more the GP2 coverage and Historic stuff actually that I want to see. If it doesnt it will be 19e on the spare dish and R5 commentary, so be interesting to get feedback on that.

Anyone got a definite on practice 1 &2?
Looked at Sport1 program listing but no mention of practice sessions.

Nicked this off another site:

RTL (a german tv channel) a test tomorrow morning. They claim on their website to be showing a live feed of all the practise sessions, qualifying and the grand prix.

Step 1 - go to _http://translate.google.com/

Google translate will translate a website in a foreign language to the language of your choice. This makes it a doddle to navigate your way around a foreign website.

Step 2 - copy and paste this link into the google translate box _http://www.rtl.de TV Programm heute | aktuelle Informationen zum RTL Fernsehprogramm - RTL.de

Step 3 - click the blue translate button (just above the box on the right)

Now this will load the RTL website but all the text has been converted to english. Now just navigate your way to the formula one section and all is revealed.

Thanks for that. Got the live feed and 5live

Shame about Sport 1, but thanks for confirming a "no-go".

Won't take long to consolidate all this coverage info so we know where to look without further ado.
