And as a timely reminder, to not drink and drive

went to a party

And remembered what you said.

you told me not to drink, Mum

So I had a Sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,

the way you said I would,

That I didn't drink and drive,

though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,

and your advice to me was right

as the party finally ended,

and the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,

sure to get home in one piece,

I never knew what was coming, Mum

something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,

And I hear the policeman say,

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk,"

Mum, His voice seems far away.

My own blood all around me,

as I try hard not to cry.

I can hear the paramedic say,

"This girl is going to die."

I'm sure the guy had no idea,

while he was flying high,

because he chose to drink and drive,

now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mum

Knowing that it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me,

like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mum

tell daddy to be brave,

and when I go to heaven,

put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,

that it's wrong to drink and drive.

Maybe if his parents had,

I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mum

I'm getting really scared.

These are my final moments,

and I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mum,

as I lie here and die.

I wish that I could say I love you, Mum

So I love you and good-bye.

Didn't see the word Christmas mentioned in your post Marts, but I'll forgive you. ;):-Cbigsmil

Yes, be sensible, get a cab, take some exercise and walk home, or celebrate at home. Whichever way you choose to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, make sure that it either doesn't involve you driving your car, or doesn't involve alchohol.

:-satbanne

Aside from that, hope everyone has a great Christmas, or if not Christians, then at least a nice break and a chance to meet up with friends and family. :)

Can I put the alternative point of view:

Bah Humbug!
:D

I think we need a poll :)

Not really. I think Marts and Rolf have gotten into the flavour of things in a way that doesn't require a Channel Five style vote (winner gets a weeks holiday somewhere sunny. Downside, Analogue comes with you).

A poll - I ask you?? Remove it at once, humbug!

I could say I hate Christmas / New year for a very specific reason. Twenty one years with the South Yorks Ambulance Service. On duty over this festive season many a year. Still have nightmares even today at some of the not so nice memories. Still hear the screams of anguish .. not from victims .. but from the victims loved ones

So if this message gets home to just one single member here, then it's achieved it's aim.

Don't do this to anyone please .. think first. Then enjoy :-sball

If you drink and drive, your a d*** head...

No fancy rhymes, no pictures, 'nuff said... :D

I have my Christmas holiday (lots of booze) and so does my car.

Remember that seat belt too

Always have my seat belt on, even to drive across a car park, didn't like the law when it came out, but only took a couple of months before it felt strange without one.

The list of famous people who would probably still be alive today had they been wearing seat belts is enormous, I personally have lost several friends and aquaintances over the last twenty years who probably would still be here with the benefit of a seat belt.

Christmas doesn't really mean much until it's Christmas Day, then it feels like Christmas. All I hope for is peace and riches in 2007.

I like watching telly over Christmas and pigging out on the sofa. But I don't drink anymore. ;)

10 days to Christmas Eve... :D
