few questions about Channel Master dish 1.8

Aw, I see, you are one of them! :-biglaugh We could share some experience of getting INOX parts to be able to get them even cheaper than they are. I have friend who works in the shop, he offers me special prices, so we could compare best deals we can get.
A few times over the years i have considered buying inox nuts and bolts in bulk and put some channelmaster refurb kits together to sell for a small profit.even priced it up once! i have ended up with a small collection of inox nuts, bolts and washers but never seem to have enough, always end up buying another small amount to finish the job:eek:
 
@purplemarina I am with you bro! Same here. Only once (it happened recently) my stock was good enough to change all nuts&bolts on 1,2m antenna. But that was more exception than a rule.
 
Thanks m8, but I'm not sure I agree about not needing measurements. I spent ages looking for a 1.8m dish and I was hoping to treat it to a top notch polar mount which will hopefully see me through this life without further mechanical input, provided it doesn't cost a fortune.
It's relatively easy to "knock up" something that will "work", but I was hoping to find a sharing enthusiast who had the R&D already done and had built a "good one". Yeah I'm one of the A4 bolt people lol.
e.g. maybe had fitted top hat bushes on the pivots, decided on the best point for attaching a 24" actuator, strengthening the mount etc.
Was also considering making the entire mount from stainless. I can get the materials but I can't tig weld myself, so I would need to know it was pretty good before I persuaded my mate to do the welding.
 
@Zimmerframe What a day! Just joined today and speaking about A4 bolts and TIG welding! Welcome to forum.
There are couple of more pictures of my polar-mount which is also for 1,8m antenna but not so heavy as CM. I think when you design yours make it strong enough to withstand at least triple times strengths needed. But, do not expect that you will build perfect mount, nothing and nobody is perfect :eek:

Thanks m8, I'm new here but not a complete newbie, I did the 1.2m polar mount refurb, last year, A4 bolts all round :) but took a short cut and used Hammerite instead of getting it galvanised, it's still bugging me.
I like your polar mount too, some nice touches.
@martin-f , that looks very good too, lots to look at and lots to digest.

I'm a pretty competent stick welder, and the dish plate or pole mount should not be too much of a problem.
One of my original "thinking out loud" very loose plan for the "bit in between" was two solid shafts maybe 40mm ? with 2 pillow bearings for the horizontal axis and two taper bearings on the vertical axis. I was then hoping to use a heavy duty short actuator connected to my remote control manual positioner for elevation adjustment and finally utilise my still in the box 24" heavy duty actuator.
My second plan was just "copy" someone else. :)
My third plan involves my m8 and stainless. If I lay it all out, cut to perfection, and marked he will weld it all perfectly no hassle, but don't ask him any for any advice, cos he doesn't know or care what you are trying to do, he just welds .:)

The usual result of my plans is nothing at all happens, but in the next couple of weeks my garage will be started and then the location of the 4.5" vertical pole will be decided and after that then surely I will put something on top of it.

I actually will have no issues with the installation part, as I can just dig hole, put down 4.5 inch pole and fill with concrete. No planning needed and no neighbours. I just need to make the polar mount and decide where to dig.

I will be making something like that you just space it out at the top for the declination when fabricating, I also have a dual axis controller that could make things easier.

Zimmerframe yes that is a different setup. It is a pic of the back of a Channel Master 3.0 meter prime focus C&ku band antenna. It is of feedsat_dxers antenna I believe.
