it does itself. if you are on the correct frequency it will lock on to the center frequency.
usualy if you are 2 meghz on the center plus and minus 2 mhz it will lock.
having a slightly higher signal will not give you a better signal.
you moved the frequency up or down the lobe of the frequency had a higher lobe and gave you a higher level. then it locked back to the proper frequency.
