First dish advice

Hi guys

Ive just moved house into an area in Worcestershire with very poor/no freeview signal. All the neighbours have sky installed!!

This house has an old sky dish with quad lnb but unfortunately the second I touched it to run new cables the LNB bracket disintegrated!

I have decided the most sensible solution is to buy a new dish and LNB(s) and install them myself.

First, could you please advise if its worth me considering multiple LNB(s) and what additional english channels would I get (are any of them worthwhile?)

Secondly, can you advise on a good replacement dish and LNB(s) - there seems to be so many available on the net! (I am thinking of at least 60cm to give less weather problems?)

I have installed an old Sky dish at a previous house so am not concerned DIY'ing it.
I have already installed 4 runs of new high-quality foam filled sat cable.
I have 3 PC's in thehouse with compromate 350 sat cards in and running with Windows 7 MC.
 
Depends what you're after. If you're just after English stuff then stick with Sky but if you fancy a few foreigns channels or some football you may want to go 28e,19e,13e or even a motorised setup.

If you just want freesat/sky then a zone1 with quad would be all you need; easily picked up from either one of our site sponsors or a popular auction site.

If you are considering other satellites, then an 80cm with an LNb offset bracket arrangement would suit for the three main satellites. There's not much in the way of free English programming away from the Astra2 cluster though.. but well worth looking at if you want to brush up on your foreign languages.
 
Yup - most of the English stuff in the clear is transmitted on the "Sky satellites"

Theres a few news channels on the rest of the arc but anything in the general entertainment category tend to be scrambled.

However there are a few interesting channels out there - Russian Travel Guide has short documentaries about various bits of Russia, Caspionet has limited English news from Kazakhstan, CNC World is a new news channel from China etc etc.

Football wil cost you anything from £200/year to £1100/year depending on how good a picture and choice of games you want (half as much again for HD!)

Basically you need to tell us EXACTLY what you want to watch (dont say "everything" - thats not possible) - and what your budget is.

Just for a replacement dish for SKy have a look in any local skips - Ive lifted a couple of perfectly decent 60 cm Sky dishes out of skips over the years - as long as they arent dented they will be fine.

So stick with the sky sats for English as theres nothing much else around?

I have seen zone 2 dish's with quad LNB's around for £30 ish so may just as well get one of those for the xtra signal strength.
 
Fair price although a zone1 would be more than acceptable for Astra2 in Worcestershire.
 
Yeah a zone 1 would be fine, unless you fancy using it to "have a clart on" to find other satellites later on
