Here goes......Under the Welsh Scheme I am about to have a dish installed and connected to Astra2Connect broadband. I currently have Sky + so am having quad LNB installed. My intention is to come off Sky (full sports etc) and go to their one off payment scheme. I have one of the older Sky + boxes. I would like to receive other TV channels from the Astra sat, is this possible. would it best to purhase another PVR, or could I use the sky box ? will I havre enough leads from dish ?

really as much help and advice appreciated....THANKS

Welcome.

You'll need a set up looking at 23.5°E.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Satellites.

I assume that the Astra2connect will be installed by a contractor. A precise operation.

My advice is keep the set-up totally separate. Leave the SKY UK TV dish alone. Use whatever receiver you wish (Freesat / Sky) add a PVR if you desire. Two cables to the main viewing room, others as spares (bedrooms, etc).

Neither dish should be motorised.

Simplicity.

Regarding 'other channels', check _http://www.lyngsat.com for listings. If you desire 'other channels' from the other Astra bird, then discuss that with the Astra2connect supplier. However, a SKY box is not recommended to receive other transponders on other satellites

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

The broadband over satellite system from astra2Connect allows (just) satellite reception from 28.2 East using just the one dish.

The uplink/downlink cabling for your broadband will be installed separately of the two cables you require for the S ky+ box, and consist of a twin cable that is identifiable from the outer sheath.

The system needs cobbling together somewhat differently to the instructions from the manufacturer (Newtec) as the BUC has to be installed 180 degrees opposite to what is written. The receiving LNB for S ky will then fit on a custom bracket next to it.

Don't forget, these modem systems are transmitters and emit radiation whilst the unit is on. Make sure you have somebody booked who is fully conversant with uplinking equipment, knows where to fit without exposure to the user and any third party, and most importantly check their credentials including public liability before letting them loose on your roof. I had the task of correcting a job just before Christmas near here, the repairs took longer than a full install would have done.
