hi all,
I am a newbie to this and have stumbled along in the mission of getting sat tv on my pc,
History: my system is a medion titanium md 8386, i have a standard sky dish and lnb, and purchased a second hand skystar 2 pc rev 2.3 from ebay which had no software with it :-DOH!
present: I have got it working i think and am using progdvb where i am getting some free to air channels
now i hear about soft keys and encription type stuff
do i need an actual card and card interface or not and if not could some kind person explain slowly where and how to put them in
also since i been downloading plugins every time i start progdvb an error appears stating unable to open com port

please please can someone help as i feel so close to succeeding in this mission

If you are trying to decrypt Sky channels, then I'm afraid you will be unsuccessful, not even sure if there is a plugin to read a genuine Sky subscription card.

If you are pointing at another sat, then we need to know which one. :)
 
Hi Bonking,
All you need to do is to go to the satkey org and go to the PCI dvb card section. Download and unzip. latest softcam keys are 5/11/05 and for ProgDVB you need to get the softcam.key and put it into your ROOT directory, and off you go

ooh ooh what about the error about cannot open com 2 ?
 
shouldnt be any com port errors ?? I dfont know why it would even be an issue ,Whats asking? computer,ProgDVB ? hmm ?
 
I fixed the prob
it was to do with poor mans cam(nagra) in the pheonix section it couldn't opem com2 port so Ive deleted that cam and it no longer comes up (don't ask me why yet, but i'm sure with the help of this website i will eventually get to the promised land

i dont seem to have that setup, at the moment i'm using mozilla firefox should i go to internet explorer
 
Go to top of page select User CP and select edit options. Near bottom of page choose enhanced WYSIWYG editing to get your smilies
 
found it :-DOH!
if i can't handle smilies what chance have i got watching man city v blackburn next week (see my other post on dish setup)

? what program ? :eek: if you mean PoorMansCam,if so you need a card reader hooked to a com port and a smart card for it,but as above,you probably cant use it for what you are needing.
