Ever wondered where that plane is going to when you look up?

Flightradar 24 site has just done a beta upgrade which includes the flight/plane 3D tracking option ( free is good have not tried premium yet )

Click on the flight/plane opens a pane to left, click 3D option to get cockpit view from that flight/plane, ? mark in right pane gives instructions.

Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker!

From FR24 f@cebook site

"" We would like to thank everyone for their patience as we have launched the new Flightradar24. After launch we experienced a surge of users and each was much more active on the site than normal. This put a significant strain on the site’s capacity. We immediately began adding capacity, but our initial increases were not enough. Due in large part to the massive popularity of the new 3D View—we recorded 1.5 million users in the first 24 hours—we needed even more capacity.

We now believe that we’re operating with enough capacity and that most of the issues and access interruptions have been solved by our latest increase.

If you haven’t already, take a look around the site and try out a 7-day free trial of one of our new Premium subscriptions!

Enjoy

Great site.

If any of you have an old raspberry pi just gathering dust, you can plug a £8 DVB-T usb dongle into it and get a free premium account on the site by feeding. Just recently did that myself, even with the default aerial on the usb dongle It's seeing traffic 50 miles away.

I've been thinking about doing this. Is there a step by step guide somewhere? Presume you can start with raspbian, then what?

Sure is. Flightradar24.com - Live flight tracker!

Theres an image on there you can download and put onto the SD card, comes with all the drivers/software you need. Took me maybe 10 minutes to install the whole thing.

Here is the dongle I bought: RTL2832U & R820T DVB-T RTL-SDR+DAB+FM USB 2.0 Digital TV Receiver Stick Tuner UK

It has an external aerial port if you ever decide to upgrade it.

Ok Thanks. I'll try that
