fortec fs4200 outdated ?

Hi,
We recently had a satellite system installed so that my wife can watch her favourite Turkish TV channels. Her favourite channels are on Turksat 2a, 3a. The installer supplied us with a Fortec Star FS4200 box and even though the dish is pointed at 42 degrees E (the location of Turksat 2a and 3a) it only lists Turksat1C at this location in the "satellite list". I checked on the net and this is the old location for Turksat 1C ! There are even satellites listed that we are apprently receiving good signals for that are no longer in service !

Can anyone tell us if Turksat 2a, 3a are not listed because the box is outdated ? There is a possibility that some buildings may be impeding the signal but we are getting good reception on other satellites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can download updated software from the Fortec site for the FS4200 here -

Not familiar with your receiver, but I should imagine it has the latest satellite lists.

You'll need a null modem cable (PC to STB RS232 terminal) to do the transferring - instructions are given on that page.

I have installed one of those receivers and the satellite/transponder list was abysmally out of date.

I could not see any channel lists on the FS site so had to add the transponders manually.

It doesn't matter what the satellite is named, as long as the wanted transponders are there, it is OK.
But not all transponders on that sat are available this far west of the target audience.

There's also the blind scan option of course, if you're prepared to do some clearing up afterwoods.
 
Thanks very much for your advice. Sounds like I should perhaps try getting my money back on the receiver from the installer and buy a decent one. Any suggestions for a good budget receiver ? All we need is to be able to pick up Turksat 2a,3a. Apparently they are available here in the UK.

For the West beam a 60cm will be fine

but for the East beam you will require 2.00 mtr or above

This explains all ! Thank you for pointing this out. Until I studied the channels my wife wants in more detail I did not realise that they are all on the East beam. In fact I didn't even know there was a West and East beam !
We have no choice but to subscribe to Digiturk which transmits all these channels using Eutelsat W3A. I'm pretty sure we can pick up this satellite with our 80cm dish once it's re-aligned.
